Chapter 367
Marina had only messaged him at noon to ask about Elnora’s condition and showed up in Port City that very afternoon. He had more or less figured out the reason behind it.
The media in Port City had a habit of making things up. Although he hadn’t married Elnora for love, he had never done anything to betray her after they got married.
It was a marriage between two families, and the Campbell family elders were particularly fond of Elnora. Even if he truly intended to cross the line, he would consider his wife’s reputation and would never let it reach her ears.
Obviously, Marina bore some hostility toward him and didn’t respond. Instead, Reese shot him a glance and said in a low voice, “No matter what, this matter started because of you. I expect you to handle it properly during this time. Don’t make me step in.
At Reese’s words, Albert could only smile helplessly. He leaned closer to. Elnora, casually resting an arm along the back of her chair.
‘Honey, help me out in front of your mom–in–law, will you?” he said.
Seeing Albert speak up, Elnora looked up at Reese and said softly, “Mom, Albert already explained everything to me.” When Elnora called him by his name, there was not the slightest hint of affection in her tone. Albert raised an eyebrow, a subtle emotion flickering in his eyes.
Seeing that Elnora had spoken up, Reese gave Albert a few token warning words, and the matter was considered settled.
After dinner, the Campbell family sent them to the hotel. Although Reese had insisted that Marina and the others stay at heir place, Marina politely kept her distance.
Ever since Elnora married Albert, the Campbell family had really helped out the Finley family. They had paid off all the Finleys‘ debts in one shot, and Marina didn’t want to be seen as a freeloading relative and be a drag on Elnora.
she had already seen Elnora, and seeing that she was doing fine, it put her completely at ease. Considering Elnora’s health condition, which she might not hold up if she stayed out too long, Reese had the driver send her back to the manor after the neal.
Before leaving, Elnora shared a few things Marina should be mindful of. Knowing that Elnora was not fond of overly cloying displays of affection, Marina listened carefully and then watched as her car drove away.
On their end, Reese personally saw them off to the hotel. Back at the hotel, Marina had just stepped into her room when her phone started ringing.
She checked the screen; it was Daron calling. She swiped to answer. Daron’s voice sounded cold and detached when he said Are you still at the office? Are you working late again tonight? When are you coming home?”
de bombarded her with three questions at one go, and Marina couldn’t help but freeze for a moment. Didn’t you see the message I sent you?” she asked.
Hayley and Zara were both in Daron’s office then, and as he looked pretty annoyed, she didn’t tell him that she was heading o Port City. But before her flight took off, she texted Daron
Daron fell silent for a few seconds, pulled up their chat, and checked again. After confirming there was nothing from her, his voice turned low and grave when he said. “I didn’t get your message”
Now, Marina was the one who fell silent. “Give me a second,” she said

She opened their chat, intending to screenshot the message to show Daron, but realized it didn’t go through. There was a red exclamation mark next to it.
Marina pursed her lips, her voice tinged with embarrassment. “Sorry, the message didn’t go through. The plane just took off, so the signal was probably weak,” she said.
Frowning, Daron asked in a grave tone, “The plane took off? Where are you now?”
Marina bit her lip and replied calmly, “I’m in Port City. I haven’t seen my sister in a long time, so I came to visit her.”
Daron fell silent. He suddenly remembered Marina’s hesitant look in his office at noon, as if she wanted to say something but held back. He instantly felt annoyed.
“Why didn’t you just tell me?” he asked.
She replied calmly, “It’s not a big deal. You were in a discussion, so I figured a text would be just fine.”
Daron fell silent and then said, “What important discussion could I have with them?”
Hayley just dropped by today to talk about Zara joining the company once her cast is off. Since Zara was still unfamiliar with the company environment, she wanted to intern as Daron’s assistant and had come to ask him about it.
Working as an assistant in the CEO’s office would indeed help her adapt to the company faster. However, since Zara would work in the project department in the future, it made more sense for her to intern there. He thus disagreed with Hayley’s suggestion.
Moreover, with Marina still working in his CEO’s office, she naturally harbored some resistance toward Hayley and Zara. He thus didn’t want them interacting too much to avoid making Marina feel uncomfortable.
However, Marina sneaked off to Port City without even telling him. Daron was clearly frustrated.
“Marina, what am I to you? You don’t even tell me about such a small matter? We’re husband and wife, aren’t we?” he asked.
Marina fell silent for a moment before replying, “Mr. Zamora, our relationship isn’t like that of normal couples.
“I think the way we get along actually works for us. You’re busy with work most of the time, so maybe you don’t want me hovering around you or getting in your way, right?”
Daron picked up on the key point in Marina’s words right away. “Are you saying I’m the one hovering around you and getting on your nerves?” he asked.
Marina was at a loss for words. “I was just using it as an example,” she said.
