His 181St Second (Laverne and Marina) novel Chapter 370

Arine had always doted on Kara. If she knew that Kara had treated this way, she would probably storm over to the Burke family to set things straight.

But that would play right into the hands of the mastermind behind the scenes. No matter what, Kara would have to lie low for the following two years.

Kara had never been apart from her family for so long. Hearing Finn’s words, she bit her lip, holding back her emotions, and asked, Does it really have to be two full years?

Finn glanced at her, his voice calm. You’re having a baby. Your body needs time to heal, doesn’t it?

Kara fell silent. Marina knew Finn was merely trying to protect Kara, pushing her out of the line of fire and shielding her from the fallout.

Kara, it’s fine. Even if you’re in Frency, we can always visit you anytime,Marina said gently.

Kara bit her lip hard, whispering under her breath. Maybe it’s better not to have the baby, she murmured.

You guys are all busy with work. If there’s nothing urgent, don’t visit me. If I see you guys, I’m afraid I won’t be able to hold out for two full years, she added.

She sounded pretty down, but you could tell she was getting more determined with every word said. In the end, she agreed with Finn to move to Frency for two years, and booked her ticket right away.

Seeing Kara book a direct flight to Frency, Marina said, Kara, you can come with me to Yorelia first, and then I’ll take you to Frency.”

Kara shook her head, forcing a bitter smile. After all, I’ll have to get used to living alone in Frency, she said.

You don’t have to come with me this time, but promise me you’ll be there to pick me up when I come back to Vrufield from Frency in two years,” she added.

Marina nodded, feeling Kara had matured in an instant. She thus reached out to hug her. Surely I’ll be there to pick you up.Marina assured her.

I can forget picking up anyone else, but I’ll never forget you,she added. Kara couldn’t help but smile at her words.

Finn got up from the couch, walked over to Kara, and gave her a gentle pat on the head. His voice was low and serious when he said, I’ll explain to Mom and Dad. In Frency, if you ever need anything, call me anytime.”

Kara nodded and reached out to hug Finn. Sorry, Finn. I’m putting you through all this again, she said softly.

Finn let out a sigh, his voice tinged with resignation. Hey, that’s what brothers are for,he replied. No matter what happens I’ll always have your back.

Earlier, Kara just felt a twinge in her nose; the urge to cry hadn’t been that strong. But now, hearing what Finn said, she felt an overwhelming urge to cry. She didn’t hold back, curling up quietly in his arms and crying.

Marina watched as Kara curled up in Finn’s arms, crying like a little kid who had just been wronged. She pressed her lips together and thought, Kara’s really lucky to have a brother who loves her, and I’m lucky too to have a sister who loves me

They had always been protected, but sooner or later, life would throw them a curveball that would force them to grow up fast. Marina figured that for Kara, that lesson was probably Preston.

Chapter 370

Finn comforted Kara for a while, went over a few things with her, and then told her to head back to her room to get some

rest.

Marina and Kara stepped out of Finn’s room together. The tension and fear were gone from Kara’s face; now all that was left was sadness.

Marina understood Kara’s feelings. She had never been apart from her family for this long before, and now she was about to be gone for two full years. For her, that would be torturing.

Kara, two years will fly by,Marina said gently. Back when I was seventeen, I left Vrufield. Now I’m back, and I’m twenty- seven years old. Ten years went by so fast, it’s crazy.

Kara looked at Marina and then nodded quietly, still frustrated. They returned to their rooms respectively, their hearts heavy with sadness.

Marina was the kind of person who hated farewells the most. As expected, she was lying awake all night after returning to her room.

She was lying in bed, wide awake, when she suddenly heard her door being unlocked. She snapped her eyes open and checked the time; it was already the early hours of the morning.

This was the best hotel in Port City, owned by the Campbell family. They were staying in suites, and the security here was supposed to be airtight. So how could someone be openingthe door in the middle of the night?she wondered.

Marina held her breath, quietly got out of bed, and grabbed the vase from the side table, ready to clock whoever came through the door.

The person outside attempted to enter the password several times but failed. Marina stood behind the door, tense, listening to the sound of unsuccessful password entry attempts one after another.

Just as she was about to call the front desk, her phone started ringing instead. Marina quickly checked her phone and realized it was Daron who called.

Marina felt her nerves settle and answered the call. Daron’s deep voice came through the phone, Are you asleep?

Marina said, No, I’m still up, but about to go to bed.”

Daron said, If you’re still awake, open the door to let me in or tell me the code.

Marina took a deep breath, looking toward the door, and asked, Are you the one at the door?

Daron paused briefly and asked, Who else would it be if not me?

Marina bit her lip, walked over to the door, and pulled up the video feed on the lock. Step back, she told him.

Daron did as she asked, moving back until his face appeared on the screen. Seeing it was him, Marina finally unlocked the door.

When she saw Daron standing there for real, her eyes widened in genuine surprise. How come you’re here?she asked.

The night in Port City had already taken on a chill. As Daron stepped in, he brought a draft of cold air with him. The moment he got in, Marina quickly closed the door.
