‘All these years, I never tried to take your mother’s place. I gave everything I had to look after Daron, but I never pretended to be his mom.

‘I know exactly where I stand. I’m the housekeeper the Blanchards brought into the Zamora family. Never once did I try to claim anything that didn’t belong to me.”

Bette’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile.

“Really?” she replied, her tone icy.

Hayley straightened her back, trying to hold herself together as she faced Bette.

She said, “Of course, it is.

As Hayley spoke, tears slid down her cheeks.
