His Dangerous Love On Ice (Olivia and Zane) novel Chapter 126

Sophia’s POV

The name alone made me smile.

I’d known Elena since I was a child. She’d been part of our lives for years-the girl next door who’d grown up alongside us. The girl Zane had been inseparable from since they were six years old.

They’d been everything to each other. Best friends. Confidants. First loves.

I remembered watching them together as kids. The way Zane would light up when Elena walked into a room. The way she’d look at him like he hung the moon and stars.

They were supposed to end up together. Everyone knew it. Everyone expected it.

But then something happened.

I’d never gotten the full story-1 was too young to understand at the time, and by the time I was old enough to ask, it was too painful for anyone to talk about.

All I knew was that one day Elena was there, and the next she was gone.

Moved away. Cut off contact. Disappeared from our lives completely.

And Zane… Zane had never been the same after that.

He’d become colder. Harder. More closed off. Like losing Elena had broken something fundamental inside him.

But I’d always believed-always hoped-that deep down, he still had feelings for her.

That if she came back, if they saw each other again, whatever they’d had would reignite.

And Olive? Olive would be nothing. A temporary distraction. A poor substitute for the real thing.

My hands were shaking slightly as I reached for my phone again.

Not from fear. From excitement. From the thrill of finally having a plan that could actually work.

I pulled up my contacts and scrolled until I found my secretary’s number.

She answered on the second ring.

Miss Mercer?”

“I need you to find someone for me,” I said, my voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through my veins. “Elena Volkov. I need every piece of information you can find. Last known location, current employment, relationship status, social media presence. Everything.”

There was a brief pause on the other end.

“Elena Volkov?” my secretary repeated carefully. “May I ask what this is regarding?”

“You may not,” I said sharply. “Just find her. Discreetly. I don’t want anyone knowing about this. And when you locate her, I want you to arrange a meeting. Private. Somewhere neutral. As soon as possible.”

“Of course, Miss Mercer. I’ll begin immediately.”

“Good. And one more thing-” I paused, making sure she understood the gravity of this. “If anyone asks what you’re working on, you don’t mention this. Not to anyone. Understood?”

“Perfectly, Miss Mercer.”

I ended the call and set my phone down, leaning back in my chair.

The city skyline stretched out before me through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Gray clouds gathering on the horizon. A storm coming.

Fitting.

Elena Volkov.

Zane’s childhood sweetheart. The girl he’d loved before the military, before the darkness, before whatever had turned him into the man he was now.

If anyone could break through Olive’s hold on him, it was Elena

And once Olive saw them together? Once she realized she was just a placeholder for someone Zane had actually loved- someone with history, with depth, with real meaning?

She’d crumble.

She’d run.

And Zane would finally wake up and realize what he’d been throwing away for a woman he barely knew.

The family would stabilize. Father would recover from the scandal-or at least we’d weather it together instead of being torn apart by Zane’s obsession with some girl.

Everything would go back to normal.

The way it was supposed to be.
