OLIVE’S POV
My heart was trying to break out of my chest. The room was spinning. And Zane was looking at me like I was the only thing that mattered in the entire goddamn world.
“I’m yours,” I said, louder this time.
The corner of his mouth twitched. Almost a smile. “Good girl.”
And then he kissed me.
Not gentle. Not sweet. Not the kind of kiss you gave someone at party with hundreds of people watching.
He kissed me like he was claiming me. Owning me. Proving a point to everyone in the room that I was his and his alone.
His hand slid into my hair, tilting my head back, and I couldn’t help it-I melted into him. My hands found his chest, fisting in his shirt, and I kissed him back like my life depended on it.
The room exploded.
I heard gasps, murmurs, someone’s drink hitting the floor. Phones came out, cameras flashing, and Zane didn’t stop. He deepened the kiss, his other hand finding the small of my back and pulling me flush against him.
When he finally pulled back, I was dizzy. Wrecked. Barely able to stand.
He kept his hand in my hair, his eyes locked on mine. “Two months. You’re mine for two months. Everyone here knows it now.”
I couldn’t speak. Could barely breathe.
He turned to Ryan without letting go of me. “The bet’s off. Touch her again, and I’ll end your career. Are we clear?”
Ryan’s face was red, his fists clenched, but he nodded.
Zane looked at the crowd next, his expression daring anyone to say a word. No one did.
And then I heard it. A voice cutting through the chaos.
“Olive.”
No. No, no, no.
I turned, still pressed against Zane, and saw Cole pushing through the crowd. His face was white, his eyes wild, and behind him-the woman, Zane’s sister.
Sophia.
She looked confused. Hurt. Hair bouncy like some celebrity curl. Her eyes bouncing between Zane and me like she was trying to piece together a puzzle she didn’t have all the pieces fo
“Olive, what the hell are you doing?” Cole’s voice was shaking. Angry. Desperate.
Zane’s grip on me tightened. “She’s doing what she should’ve done two years ago.”
“You don’t even know her.” Cole was closer now, his hands flexing like he wanted to hit something. “This is insane. You’re making a mistake-”
“The only mistake she made was wasting two years on you.” Zanes voice was calm, but there was steel underneath. “Now she’s done.”
“Zane?” Sophia’s voice was small. Broken. “What’s happening? What’s this?”
He barely glanced at her. “Ask your boyfriend why he’s obsessed with me.”
Cole’s face went even paler. His face looked whipped.
Another voice joined the chaos. “OLIVE.”
Oh god.
Grayson.
My stepfather was pushing through the crowd, his face red, his expression murderous. My mom was behind him, her hand over her mouth, her eyes wide with shock.
And Hunter-Hunter was trying to hold Grayson back but was losing.
“Get your goddamn hands off my daughter.” Grayson’s voice boomed across the ballroom.
Zane didn’t move. “She’s not your daughter. And she made her choice.”
“Like hell she did.” Grayson lunged, and Hunter barely caught him, both of them stumbling.
I was drowning. Too many voices, too many people, too much everything. My chest was tight, my vision blurring at the edges, and I couldn’t breathe.
Zane must have felt it because he leaned down, his mouth at my ear, his voice cutting through the noise. “Breathe, Muffin. I’ve got you.”
