"How did you know?" Jonathan shot back.
"I guessed... Marina's been back for a while now, so I figured you'd finally be divorcing Niamh, right?"
As Preston Winslow spoke, he watched Jonathan closely, gauging his reaction.
Back when Marina first returned, Preston had thought Jonathan should leave Niamh. But Jonathan couldn't bring himself to part with Niamh, who'd practically run his household, so the divorce dragged on.
While Preston scrutinized Jonathan, Jonathan was quietly studying Preston in return. In all the years he'd known Preston, this was the first time he'd seen such eager hope in the man's eyes.
"You really want me to divorce Niamh, don't you?"
"Of course I do," Preston replied without hesitation. But as soon as the words were out, he caught the icy flicker in Jonathan's eyes.
"I'm just thinking about Marina, you know. She's been with you for so long, and still has no official place in your life…"
Jonathan fell silent.
"She's actually come to me in tears more than once, saying she's tired of feeling like the other woman…"
"Mm."
"So this time… you really are planning to divorce Niamh, aren't you?"
"I am."
When Jonathan confirmed it, Preston let out a barely audible, "That's fantastic."
The storm in Jonathan's gaze faded as quickly as it had come. He managed a calm, enigmatic smile.
Niamh had taken a leave of absence.
For now, Sophia was managing the studio. Over the next three days, Niamh visited seven different detective agencies.
This time, her target wasn't Jonathan—it was Flynn.
Of all the lawyers she could think of, only Flynn had a real shot at winning her divorce case.
According to the divorce agreement Jonathan had handed her, her repeated requests for divorce had supposedly caused major financial losses to The Thomas Group.
Niamh knew it would be hard to leave Jonathan without paying a steep price.
She could see right through Jonathan's tactics—he was making things as difficult as possible, hoping she'd just give up.
If it took money to be free of him, so be it. But three billion? She wasn't a fool.
