His Housewife Had Secret Identities novel Chapter 557

At the CelestiMed branch office, Jarrett answered an internal call from the front desk.

“President Guthrie, there’s a woman named Lana here to see you. She says she has something to deliver, but she doesn’t have an appointment.”

The name made Jarrett’s brow furrow for a second before smoothing out again. “Let her in.”

He hung up the phone, a small smirk playing on his lips. He’d been with his fair share of women, but he’d never met one as naive as Lana. To date, every one of their meetings had been at a hotel. He’d done nothing for her, merely using her as a convenient outlet for his desires. And yet, Lana never complained. She never even questioned it. A few sweet words were all it took to convince her that he loved her.

As far as he could recall, this was the first time Lana had ever shown up at his office. Perhaps it was because, besides his company, she had no idea where else to find him. Jarrett was curious to see what she had gone to so much trouble to bring him.

Knock, knock.

The door soon opened. The receptionist stepped aside, revealing Lana standing behind her.

Her heart pounding like a drum, Lana walked tentatively toward him, nearly tripping over her own feet and dropping the box she was holding. Jarrett moved quickly to steady her, catching the box at the same time. The sudden closeness brought them face to face, and Jarrett’s star-bright eyes seemed to have a fatal gravitational pull. Lana’s heart hammered against her ribs, and a deep blush spread across her cheeks. They had slept together countless times, but his intense, affectionate gaze still made her feel flustered and shy.

“Careful. It would break my heart if you got hurt,” Jarrett said, his voice dripping with affection as he gently poked her forehead. He then placed the box on his desk. “Did you come all this way just to bring me this?”

Without waiting for an answer, he began to open it. When he saw the large cake inside, his eyes showed no hint of surprise or pleasure. He’d never cared for sweets, and besides, the cake Lana brought looked amateurish. It couldn't compare to one from a professional bakery, or even a small neighborhood shop.
