His Housewife Had Secret Identities novel Chapter 563

The room was pitch-black.

"Niamh, where are you?" Jarrett called out, fumbling around in the darkness.

The space was small, and he soon bumped into someone.

As the figure turned, a ghostly, blood-streaked head glowing with an eerie white light appeared, and Jarrett let out a piercing scream.

"Jarrett?" Niamh had accidentally hit a switch, and a sliver of light cut through the oppressive dark.

The ghost head vanished.

She saw Jarrett, and he saw her.

"Niamh!" he cried, clearly terrified, and ran over to pull her into a tight hug.

Recalling his earlier confession about being afraid, Niamh attributed his inappropriate gesture to sheer panic.

She gently pushed him away. "It's all fake, just a hologram. Pull yourself together."

"Yeah, sorry. I guess I'm not very brave," Jarrett said, scratching the back of his neck as he sidled up to her again.

"Um, Niamh…" He grabbed her hand. "My legs are a little shaky… Can you help me walk?"

Niamh wanted to refuse, but he looked so genuinely jumpy that she worried he might have a panic attack if she left him alone.

Speechless, she relented and let him hold onto her as they searched for a way out.

Just then, they heard Lana and Elmer's anxious voices from outside.

Lana's was especially loud, sounding as if she were just on the other side of the wall.

As Niamh scanned the walls in the dim light, searching for a release mechanism, the door suddenly swung open, flooding the room with light.

Lana rushed in first. "Nia, are you guys o—"

She stopped short, her eyes locking onto Niamh and Jarrett's tightly clasped hands.

"…What?" Niamh asked, completely baffled.

Jarrett returned with the drinks just then.

"It's getting dark, so our date is almost over," he announced. "I'd like to watch the final fireworks show alone with Lana."

Niamh and Elmer exchanged a look and nodded.

They had already overstepped by vetting Lana's boyfriend, and their presence seemed to be making her miserable. It was best to give them space.

Jarrett found a spot with a good view and settled down with Lana to wait.

"Lana…" He gently poked her pouted cheek. "Did I do something to upset you?"

Her lip trembled, and large tears began to stream down her face.

Jarrett immediately panicked. "Lana, please don't cry!"
