"Grandpa…"
"On my way here, I learned what happened. If anyone is to blame, it’s the person who tried to harm you… That Ramona is definitely involved." Clifford’s expression shifted as he mentioned her name, his jaw tightening with hatred. "But the Quinn family has some influence, so the investigation hasn’t led back to her. She must have hired someone else to do her dirty work. But don’t you worry, Nia. I will make sure you get your revenge for this."
Clifford's words brought a fresh wave of tears to Niamh's already blurry eyes. She couldn't believe that with Jonathan's life hanging in the balance because of her, Clifford could remain so clear-headed and even promise to help her get even.
"As for Jonathan…" Clifford sighed, the sorrow on his aged face impossible to hide. "This was the path he chose. Whatever the outcome, it is not your fault, Nia."
"Grandpa…" Niamh’s voice was choked with emotion. She understood the logic, of course, but she couldn't get over the hurdle in her heart.
"Alright, alright, no more crying. You'll make my heart ache if you keep this up."
"Okay…" Comforted by Clifford, Niamh finally managed a tearful smile.
Meanwhile, at Coralis.
Ramona stood by her office window, gazing out at the bustling city below as she spoke to someone on her Bluetooth headset. "I have to say, you're quite skilled. The police have been investigating for ages and haven't found me, but they haven't found you either?"
"Well… I've always been a professional when it comes to killing," came the voice of Joker from the headset.
Before he could finish, Ramona snatched a coffee mug from her desk and hurled it at his feet. The mug shattered, splattering ceramic shards and hot coffee onto his suit trousers. Wade's brow furrowed slightly.
"I caused the company a great loss? Is that my fault? It's Niamh's fault!" Ramona shrieked hysterically. "If Niamh hadn't played dirty and had those influencers expose that the designer I poached was a fraud… If she hadn’t accelerated when she knew her brakes were failing…"
The more she spoke, the angrier she became. The Quinn Group wouldn't have suffered such losses. Her move to enter the jewelry market should have been a smooth success. If Niamh hadn't interfered, her investments would never have gone down the drain. And the street race—she hadn't wanted Niamh dead. If Niamh had just slowed down and handed over the patent, the crash wouldn't have been so severe.
"Mr. Harley was right… That Niamh is a jinx. Not just to our family, but to the Thomases too. In the end, she gets everything, causes our market value to evaporate, and leaves the sole heir of the Thomas family on the brink of death… What rotten luck."
Wade listened silently as Ramona relentlessly disparaged Niamh, his own thoughts in turmoil.
