"Mommy!" Seeing Niamh, Marlin called out clearly.
Niamh was smiling, but then she watched as Marlin ran over, grabbed Jonathan's hand, and shouted loud and clear, "Daddy!"
Jonathan answered him. Niamh immediately looked at Jonathan, but the words, "You're not Marlin's father," died on her lips.
After breakfast, Prescott arrived to report to Jonathan. It wasn't about business, but about the Quinn family.
"The woman you helped last night, she married into the Quinn family. Her husband is a distant relative of the patriarch's. He used to be a workshop foreman at one of the Quinn Group's factories. After the patriarch passed away, according to the will, he received one million dollars for living and educational expenses..."
Sitting on the sofa, Niamh listened, her brow slowly furrowing. A factory foreman who had also inherited a million dollars should have been well-off. Niamh couldn't understand why the woman had ended up working as a cleaner in a restaurant, hounded by loan sharks.
"Normally, a family like that would be comfortable, but her husband was a compulsive gambler. The one million dollars was quickly lost. On top of that, a year ago, Ramona began a large-scale dismissal of employees with the Quinn surname, especially those in management. The woman's husband lost his job, his gambling debts mounted, and it all led to the situation we saw last night..."
"I see," Niamh murmured, lost in thought. "What on earth is Ramona trying to do?"
"Right, about Hayes... Prescott found out that he's likely been under house arrest by Ramona at the patriarch's old private residence for nearly six months now."
"The Vipers' Nest?" Niamh's eyes widened.
Having been presumed dead for two years, she had almost forgotten that someone in The Vipers' Nest was dead set on killing her.
"The Vipers' Nest and Ramona have some private dealings. Ramona's ability to put Mr. Hayes under house arrest, overhaul the Quinn Group, and ruthlessly purge the Quinns... beyond the public support from the Wallace family, it was likely all orchestrated by The Vipers' Nest behind the scenes."
After hearing Prescott's report, Niamh said, almost to herself, "It's like Ramona has become some kind of mob boss..."
