His Housewife Had Secret Identities novel Chapter 795

Before Niamh could ask, Elmer spoke first. “Can I come in for a bit? Is it convenient?” It was already late. Not only was Lana completely wasted, but she and Elmer had also had their fair share to drink, so it wasn’t really an appropriate time. But since Elmer was asking to come in despite knowing this, Niamh figured he must have something he wanted to say to her in private.

“Yes, come in,” she said, letting him into the room. “I still have some hangover remedy left, do you want some?”

“Yes, please.” Elmer didn’t stand on ceremony, taking the remedy from her hand and downing it in one go.

Silence fell over the room. Niamh sat on the edge of the bed while Elmer leaned against a desk. Their eyes met.

“When we were chatting earlier, I don’t think you ever mentioned your son’s full name,” Elmer said, breaking the silence with a casual tone.

Niamh smiled. “Did I not? His name is Marlin.”

“Marlin is his nickname, right? What’s his legal name?”

Niamh paused for a second before answering, “It's Marlin Rivers.”

“He took your last name?”

“Is there a problem with that?” Niamh retorted, her tone defiant.

Elmer smiled and waved his hand dismissively, his expression as gentle and elegant as ever. “No problem at all. I’m not the father… I’m just a little curious. That Flynn guy… he doesn’t have an issue with it?”

“If the child were really Flynn’s, you would have terminated the pregnancy. You hadn’t even decided if you wanted to be with Flynn, so why would you accept having his child?”

Listening to Elmer’s explanation, Niamh rested her chin on her hand, compelled to argue. “What if… I was just lonely after faking my death? I didn’t want a new relationship, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want a child to keep me company. So when I found out I was pregnant, I kept him. That’s perfectly understandable, isn’t it?”

At first glance, Niamh’s argument sounded quite reasonable. Elmer guessed that was likely why Jonathan hadn’t questioned her story—in Jonathan’s eyes, Niamh would probably want a child for companionship more than she would a man. But Elmer had a different theory.

“The Niamh I know would never fake her death for no reason. Even to escape Jonathan, it makes no sense that you’d keep me and Lana in the dark too…” Elmer’s voice was firm and confident. “Unless… there was something you didn’t want anyone to find out, including us. And that something… could conveniently be accomplished by faking your death… For instance, hiding a pregnancy, and having a baby.”

Niamh’s eyes widened in shock. This was the first time she realized just how incredibly perceptive Elmer truly was.
