His new stepsister His biggest threat (Claire and Elijah) novel Chapter 119

**Chapter 119**

**Claire’s POV**

As the evening shadows stretched across the healer’s den, I found myself seated beside Elijah, who had been moved to one of the specialized units designed for the healing of our kind. I had remained vigilantly by his side throughout the night, my heart heavy with worry, until a maid tiptoed in to inform me that Theo was beginning to stir from his slumber.

I bit down on my lip, the realization hitting me like a cold wave: no one else would be there for him. Everyone was still recovering from the chaos of the rogue attack that had rocked our world. With a deep breath, I decided I needed to go to him.

Standing at the threshold of the healer’s den, I hesitated, my fingers nervously fiddling with the hem of my sleeve. The air was thick with the sharp scent of herbs mingled with iron—a grim reminder of the blood spilled in recent days. As I crossed the threshold, I found Theo awake, his eyes fluttering open slowly, revealing a flicker of confusion and something darker—fear.

“You… you came back,” he murmured, his voice a fragile whisper, worn and uncertain.

“Yes, I did,” I replied gently, stepping closer to him, determined to mask my own trepidation. My wolf stirred restlessly within me, a ball of anxious energy urging me to remain close to him, to offer comfort and strength.

“I… I don’t remember much,” Theo continued, his words slow and deliberate, as if he were piecing together a shattered puzzle. “But… someone paid me. Someone from the pack. I didn’t see their face. I only caught a scent and a voice, but the face… it’s all a blur.”

A wave of dread washed over me, and I felt my stomach drop. The walls of the room seemed to constrict around me, the air suddenly too thick to inhale. I clenched my fists tightly at my sides. Someone from our pack? Someone I had likely seen, perhaps even trusted? My wolf growled low in my chest, a primal warning that vibrated through every fiber of my being.

I knew instantly it was Naomi. But what could that girl possibly want?

Swallowing hard, I forced myself to steady my hands. “Theo… can you remember anything else? Anything at all about the voice? Any hint of where they might be?”

He shook his head, his eyes wide with panic. “No… I swear. It’s all… hazy. I just remember the threat, the command, and the scent. That’s all. Please… don’t let them hurt me. Don’t let them hurt anyone else.”

The betrayal cut deeper than I had anticipated, a jagged edge that scraped painfully against my insides. My wolf prickled in response, claws itching to lash out, muscles coiling with tension.

Before I could utter another word, a growl echoed through the room. It wasn’t Theo’s. It wasn’t mine. It was a low, feral sound that sent a chill racing down my spine—Elijah’s voice.

“I said… who?” His tone was sharp, jagged, a knife slicing through the stillness of the room.

I froze, my heart racing. Theo’s head snapped up, eyes wide with terror as Elijah filled the doorway, his pupils dilated, the faint glow of his aura making the air around him crackle with energy. My wolf howled in alarm—danger was near.

He was a force of nature, but beneath that fury, I could sense the tremors of raw pain, the unraveling of his very being. This wasn’t mere rage; this was Elijah on the edge.

Theo’s voice trembled, panic lacing his words. “I… I don’t know! I don’t know who it was! Please, you have to believe me! I was just following orders—I had no idea!”

“Following orders?” Elijah’s teeth ground together audibly, his frustration palpable. “You don’t know who paid you? You don’t know who gave the command?” His voice became a weapon, slicing through the air with lethal precision.

Theo raised his hands in a defensive gesture. “I swear! I don’t! I can’t remember their face! I… I remember the scent and the voice, but that’s all! I promise, I didn’t mean—”
