HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 1046

"No need." Eli smiled faintly. "Please continue the game. I want to see how the game ends tonight."

The game continued. Glass after glass passed from hand to hand. Eli began to feel her head grow heavy. Her vision occasionally felt a little dizzy, but the game was not over yet.

Then another question was directed at David.

"If your girlfriend is really special, why have you never introduced her to us?"

David shrugged. "I don't like having my private life discussed by other people."

That answer made Eli clench her hands beneath the table.

Always the same excuses. About his fans. About his popularity. About his private life. About how David wanted to protect her. But when people kept assuming Natalie was his girlfriend, David never felt the need to stop them.

Eli looked at the man with eyes that were beginning to fill with tears.

She did not understand why something as simple as an acknowledgment was so difficult for David. She was not asking David to announce their relationship to the entire campus. She only wanted one simple thing.

When someone asked who she was, David should not stay silent.

Yet tonight, David did not even try. Instead, Natalie looked increasingly comfortable sitting beside him. And David allowed it, not even denying the speculation that had been circulating since the game began.

That David and Natalie had gone from childhood friends to a real couple but did not want any publicity.

Eli took another sip of her drink. She knew she was beginning to get drunk. Yet the pain in her chest was far more troubling than the dizziness beginning to fill her head.

When it was Eli's turn again, someone called out, "Truth!"

Eli lifted her head with difficulty.

"Who is your boyfriend?"

The question made everyone's attention turn back to her.

"You don't want to tell us, Eli?"

However, Eli was no longer really hearing them. Her vision was beginning to blur. All she could feel was the heat in her face and her body becoming increasingly difficult to control.

For a moment, she looked at David once again. The man was still sitting in his seat. And for the first time that night, Eli felt utterly exhausted. Exhausted from constantly trying to understand and make excuses for everything David said and convincing herself that everything David did had a reason.

Her body then lost its balance when she tried to stand.

"Eli!"

Someone's voice rang out. However, before her body could actually fall, someone had already caught her. In one swift movement, the man scooped Eli into his arms.

The commotion in the room suddenly subsided. Eli did not even have time to see who had picked her up. All she felt was her head resting against someone's chest as her consciousness slowly faded. And amid the dozens of eyes now fixed on them, for the first time that night, David stood with an expression that had completely changed.

"Seriously, Eli! You passed out? How much have you had to drink?" whispered the young man carrying Eli so gently.
