HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 140

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**
**Chapter 140**

Daven’s expression was a mere shadow of a smile, more akin to a derisive scoff than anything genuine. “Allow me to clarify something for you, Theo. It is Vanessa who immerses herself in a whirlwind of distractions—dashing off to social galas, auditioning for films, and flitting from one fashion extravaganza to another without so much as a backward glance, as if her marriage holds no weight. And let’s not forget her tendency to linger for hours in boutiques and art galleries, as though she has completely erased the notion of home from her mind.”

“Don’t twist this around!” Theo’s voice was sharp, slicing through the air like a knife.

“I’m not twisting anything, Mr. Theo. I’m merely presenting the truth as it stands. And should you require evidence to support my claims… I can certainly provide that.”

At this, Theo’s body stiffened momentarily, a flash of crimson creeping up his neck as he wrestled with his anger.

“In that case,” he retorted, his words laced with venom, “don’t come crying to me when I decide to withdraw every single penny of my investment from Callister Group!”

The threat erupted from his lips with the force of a bullet, reverberating in the tense atmosphere.

The room was not devoid of company—Theo’s aide and Arsen were both present, their eyes darting between the two men, exchanging a fleeting look of alarm. Yet Daven stood unfazed, his demeanor almost calm as his voice dipped to a conspiratorial whisper.

“Go ahead. Callister Group is not a fragile entity that crumbles under the weight of a single investor. I’ve already anticipated the worst-case scenario should you choose to act on your threats.”

Theo’s gaze sharpened, his eyes narrowing as he weighed the gravity of Daven’s resolve. “Do you genuinely believe you would have reached your current position without my unwavering support? Have you conveniently forgotten the lengths I’ve gone to for Callister Group?”

Daven met his glare with an icy, unwavering stare, his resolve unyielding.

“No,” Daven replied quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. “I am concerned, yet I remain confident it won’t hit us as hard as it could. What troubles me more is the urgency surrounding the SunCity project. I can’t shake this nagging feeling that something isn’t right… a gut instinct telling me to proceed with caution.”

Arsen kept his gaze fixed on Daven’s back as they walked, noting the man’s purposeful stride, unwavering and resolute. Daven was a master strategist, possessing a keen business acumen that was second to none. Unfortunately, when it came to matters of the heart, he was a man who had already tasted defeat.

“Sir,” Arsen called once more, his tone tinged with urgency.

“What now?” Daven shot back, irritation flickering across his features, only to soften when he noticed Arsen lagging a few steps behind, his attention glued to his phone as if something pressing had just come to light. “What is it?”

“Uh… James wants to meet you. Privately. Can you?”
