HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 241

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**

**Chapter 241**

“A little,” Chase chuckled, his voice light and playful. “But if it’s for you, I’ll make sure to train even harder.”

The sound of Josh’s laughter rang out, bright and unrestrained, filling the room with warmth that enveloped Chase like a comforting embrace. It was a joyous melody that tugged at his heartstrings, almost making them ache with an overwhelming sense of happiness. He had never dared to dream that a day would come when both Althea and Josh would step into his life, intertwining their paths so beautifully. Yet, here they were, and it felt as if the universe had conspired to bring them together, as if they had always been destined to belong to one another.

Just a few moments later, Althea entered the room, a steaming cup of coffee cradled in one hand and a small plate of snacks for Josh in the other. She placed the coffee in front of Chase, her brow arching playfully as a soft smile graced her lips. “You two look awfully cozy. What captivating secrets are you sharing?”

“Mommy!” Josh exclaimed, his voice bubbling with excitement. “Daddy said I need to get ready for diving training! He’s going to take me to a beautiful diving spot again. But only if you say yes. So… will you let me go?”

Althea’s gaze shifted to her son, and she let out a resigned sigh, a mixture of affection and exasperation in her tone. “You never seem to tire of the water, do you? We can discuss it once we’re back in SunCity.”

“I know,” Josh interjected eagerly, his eyes shining with determination. “But before we go home, can I dive again? I still want to see the Nemo fish!”

Althea settled down beside him, her eyes softening as she focused on him with gentle attention. “This time, we can’t afford to delay our departure. There’s something important I need to take care of.”

Josh opened his mouth to protest, but Althea swiftly added, “But instead, how about you join us to meet one of Mommy’s old friends? Her name is Mrs. Yoshida—the wife of the Japanese ambassador. It’s been ages since I last saw her. She lives here in the city, and she’s really eager to meet us… especially you.”

Josh’s eyes widened in astonishment. “Me? She wants to meet me too?”

Althea’s smile widened as she slid the plate of snacks closer to him. “Absolutely. Don’t you remember the event at city hall? Mrs. Yoshida was one of the invited guests, representing her husband.”

“Oh, right! Now I remember!” Josh exclaimed, his grin stretching from ear to ear. “That was the first day I met Mr. Handsome!”

Althea felt a rush of instinct to redirect the conversation, to hush him before those words settled too deeply. But as she looked at the joy radiating from Josh’s face, she held back the impulse. Besides, Chase didn’t seem bothered at all. Still, she mentally noted to apologize later, just in case his feelings had been slightly bruised.

“I remember the lady you’re talking about too, Mommy. Is it okay if I come with you?”

“The restaurant has an outstanding reputation,” Chase continued, his tone filled with enthusiasm. “It boasts beautiful interiors, an elegant atmosphere, and a stunning view of the lake right in the heart of Mighata. I’m sure you’re going to love it.”

Josh clapped his hands in delight, his excitement palpable. “Yay! I want sushi, ramen, and maybe ice cream too!”

Althea shook her head, a smile dancing on her lips. “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Better stick to just one, Josh.”

“Two?” he bargained, his eyes sparkling with hope and mischief.

Chase arched a brow, pretending to be stern. “You’d better follow your mom’s rules, Josh.”

Josh groaned in defeat, slumping slightly. “Fine. I’ll settle for one.”

Althea laughed softly, patting his cheek affectionately. “That’s my clever boy.”
