HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 341

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**
**Chapter 341**

“Follow me, Sir,” Arsen instructed, his tone brisk yet reassuring as he led the way to the emergency unit, hoping to expedite their journey through the chaos of the hospital.

The ride to the hospital had been a torment, an agonizing stretch of time that felt like an eternity. Arsen had never envisioned a scenario like this unfolding, not in his wildest dreams.

Again.

As they entered the ER corridor, it struck Daven like a scene from a war zone—gurney wheels shrieking, nurses barking urgent commands, and monitors emitting a cacophony of beeps that seemed to pulse with the frantic energy of the night. Daven bolted inside, his breath coming in ragged gasps, his face ashen and devoid of color. His shirt, once neatly pressed, now hung loosely, a testament to the panic that threatened to unravel him completely.

“This is the patient from the accident site!” a paramedic shouted, urgency lacing his voice.

On the stretcher lay Kate—his mother—motionless, her body draped beneath a thick bandage that encircled her head, remnants of blood glistening ominously against the stark white fabric.

“Mom!” Daven’s heart raced as he attempted to step forward, but Dr. Harlan, a figure of authority, placed both hands firmly against his chest, halting him in his tracks.

“Sir, we need space,” he said, his voice steady yet gentle. “The patient has sustained severe head trauma. We must take her into the treatment room immediately. And I’m afraid I need to speak with the family.”

“I’m her son.” Daven swallowed hard, the weight of fear pressing down on him. “How bad is it, Doctor? How serious?”

The doctor gestured toward a portable CT screen, the image flickering momentarily. “There’s acute brain swelling. Her intracranial pressure is escalating rapidly. We need to perform an emergency craniotomy to relieve that pressure.”

“An operation? Now?” The words caught in Daven’s throat, a wave of disbelief crashing over him. He felt his legs weaken, his mind reeling from the gravity of the situation.

“We don’t have more than a few minutes,” the doctor emphasized, urgency tinging his tone. “If we delay, the risk of permanent damage—or worse—skyrockets.”

Daven covered his face with trembling hands, the reality of the situation crashing down on him like a tidal wave. After a moment of suffocating silence, he nodded quickly, determination flickering in his eyes. “Do it. Whatever you need.”

Trust. He had to trust the doctor. He had to believe they would do everything in their power to save his mother.

“Good. Please wait outside. We’ll begin immediately,” Dr. Harlan instructed before the stretcher was whisked away, racing down the corridor toward the operating room.

Daven followed until the end of the hall, where he found himself rooted to the spot. God, how he hoped she would be all right. He couldn’t even fathom how the accident had occurred. Perhaps Arsen was already digging into the details—he didn’t know.

His thoughts spiraled in chaos, a storm of worry and dread swirling inside his mind.

“God, please… save my mother,” he whispered, a silent plea that hung heavy in the air.
