HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 349

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**

**Chapter 349**

Selena locked her eyes onto Chris for what felt like an eternity, a silent battle of wills unfolding between them. She weighed her options carefully, contemplating whether this man was even worth her time. Finally, she shifted her focus to Eli, her tone gentle, almost soothing. “We’re returning to the hotel tonight, sweetheart. Please don’t be upset. I promise, I’ll ensure they come to recognize you as Chase Miller’s daughter.”

Eli hesitated, his gaze flickering between his mother and Chris, uncertainty etched across his young face. After a moment, he nodded, albeit slowly. “Okay, Mom.”

Chris’s irritation flared at their exchange, his voice slicing through the tension like a knife. “Did you not hear what I said?” His tone was sharp, laced with frustration.

Selena’s smile remained almost imperceptibly in place, a mask of calm that belied the storm brewing beneath. “I heard you perfectly well, but I chose to disregard it. Your presence or absence in our meeting changes nothing for me.”

Engaging with her felt like a test of endurance, one that could drain even the most patient of souls.

“Well then,” Selena said lightly, her demeanor unshaken as she began to walk toward the door. “We’ll take our leave now. Thank you for your hospitality this evening. I trust you all will start preparing yourselves.” She paused, casting a final glance over her shoulder. “Because after tonight, I have no doubt you will come to accept Eli. Blood ties are the strongest bonds of all, aren’t they?”

With that, she exited with Eli in tow, leaving behind a silence that was not merely quiet but suffocating, heavy with unspoken words and unresolved tensions.

Riana collapsed onto the sofa, the weight of frustration pressing down on her like a heavy blanket. She pressed her fingers to her temples, trying to stave off the chaotic thoughts that threatened to spiral out of control with each passing second.

“Chris… who is she really? Please, if you remember anything at all, tell me. Did Chase ever mention her? Or… was there something more between them?”

Felicia quickly handed Riana a glass of water, concern etched on her face. “Please, Aunt Riana, try to calm down. I’m sure Chris will look into this thoroughly.”

Riana shot Felicia a grateful look. “Thank you, dear. Honestly, thinking about all of this feels like trudging through a barren desert.” She took a long sip of water, almost draining the glass in one go. “Still… we can’t ignore the motive behind her sudden appearance tonight, can we?”

Felicia nodded, her expression serious.

Kalina, who had been quietly observing, finally broke her silence. “Don’t let her exploit the family’s vulnerability, Aunt Riana. Whatever decision you make, we believe in your judgment.”

Riana managed a faint smile, appreciating their support. “Thank you. You should both get some rest. These past few days have been exhausting for you as well.”

Felicia and Kalina nodded in agreement before leaving the living room, the door clicking shut behind them.

Once they were alone, Riana turned her attention back to Chris, urgency lacing her voice. “So, Chris… have you remembered anything about that woman?”
