Chapter 432
“I think so.”
Selena smiled faintly. “I thought as much. You must have liked talking to your grandmother, right? That’s only natural. Just imagine how wonderful it would be to talk to her all the time. Every day. To receive that kind of warm attention from her.”
Eli fell silent, and Selena seemed content to let the calm settle in-giving Eli space to think, as if quietly planting her thoughts, letting them sink in.
“Oh, did she ask about your visit to SunRise Academy?” Selena added casually,
Eli turned to her, slightly surprised by the question. “Yes.”
“And what did you say?”
“I told her I admire Papa’s foundation,” Eli replied softly. “The system is well organized. The teachers look professional. The students have achieved so much. I want to study there.”
Selena shifted her posture slightly, clearly focusing now. “And?”
“And I said I’d do my best at Saint Loisse,” Eli continued. “Because Grandpa already chose that school for me. I want to make them… and Papa proud.”
Selena drew a long breath, then let out a quiet laugh. “That’s good. Very good. You’re really doing your best. Keep it up make it easy for them to grow close to you. You told her about your achievements at school too, didn’t you?”
“Of course.”
Selena gently stroked the top of Eli’s head. The touch was warm, yet for some reason it felt awkward to Eli- different from how it felt when she was with Riana.
Selena’s smile widened. “You should set up another meeting. Try to see her once a week. And you talked about moving into the main house too, didn’t you?”
Eli hesitated. “Yes… I brought it up. Grandma said that once my status is confirmed, I’ll be accepted as Papa Chase’s daughter. No different from the others.”
“Did she really?” Selena leaned closer. “She said that?”
Eli met her mother’s gaze. For some reason, the question felt urgent. “Yes, Mom. Grandma said that. I also thanked her for taking me to Daddy’s grave.
“You did wonderfully, sweetheart!” Selena pulled Eli into a reflexive hug. “But did your grandmother say when we’d be brought to the main house?”
“No. But…” Eli answered carefully, “I said it might be nice if the decision could come sooner. I didn’t want to sound pushy.”
Selena smiled with clear satisfaction. “You did exactly right. And you know-we truly deserve more.”
Eli turned to her. “Isn’t what we have now enough?”

Selena clicked her tongue. “I’ve already made this clear. Do I really need to say it again?”
“N-no, Mom.”
“What you have now is only enough to survive, not to live properly,” Selena said sharply, her gaze cutting into Eli. “You’re a granddaughter of the Miller family. Don’t forget that.’
Eli swallowed. “I don’t want to take anything from anyone.”
))
“You’re not taking anything,” Selena replied quickly. “You’re simply claiming what’s rightfully yours.”
The car came to a stop in the apartment parking area. As soon as they stepped out, Selena’s phone vibrated in her hand-an unfamiliar number. She scanned the surroundings briefly, clearly unwilling to have this conversation overheard by Eli.
“Go inside first,” she said. “Tell Silvia to prepare dinner.”
“Alright, Mom.” Eli nodded obediently and walked away, leaving Selena as she moved toward a quieter area with fewer people around. Maybe it was because her phone was ringing and she needed privacy-who knew? But at least Eli could finally breathe. Ever since the drive, a suffocating pressure had been tightening in her chest. Perhaps it was the weight of Selena’s insistence-that Eli had to move into the Miller family’s main house as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, after making sure no one else was nearby, Selena answered the call without hesitation. “Yes?”
“Why did it take you so long?” the voice on the other end snapped.
“What’s the problem?” Selena replied coolly, her tone dismissive. “I’ve just received some good news.”
“What is it? Can the girl get in there already?” The voice sounded urgent.
“Not yet, but it’s an excellent first step. They can meet again and grow closer. Riana Miller isn’t someone you can approach easily, in case you didn’t know.”
“Fine, fine. I just hope the girl can move you into the main house soon, so our plan can fully succeed.”
“I understand.” Selena’s smile widened. “So… tell me. What’s wrong that made you call in such a hurry?”
“Oh, right. We’ve lost contact with one of our people. I’ve had it looked into, but his trail disappears in the western area toward the old airport.”
“And what does that have to do with me?” Selena clicked her tongue.
“He played a key role in putting Callister where it is now, you foolish woman. Losing contact with him should tell you it’s time to start moving more carefully.”
Selena fell silent.
“Whatever you do from now on, don’t be too obvious,” the voice continued. “They might be starting to sense something we don’t.”
Selena’s lips curved into a crooked smile. “Relax. You don’t need to warn me like that.”
