That afternoon, Silvia excused herself to go out and buy some household necessities. Eli still hadn’t returned from school-she said she had an extra singing class. Eli had been chosen to represent her school in an upcoming competition. Selena didn’t particularly care; what mattered was that Eli continued to rack up achievements.

That was how she planned to draw Riana Miller’s attention. Because through that, she could keep selling Eli’s name—and whatever talent the girl possessed.

Selena spent much of her time indulging herself. Trips to the salon the mall, or well-known cafés filled her days. A card Erick had given her-supposedly meant to support Eli and Selena’s living expenses while they stayed in the apartment—was instead deliberately used by Selena for personal indulgences. She claimed she had every right to use it.

That afternoon, Selena chose to sit back and enjoy the news playing on television. Daven’s face appeared on the screen again, accompanied by reports that the CEO of Callister Group was entangled in several major scandals-allegations of money laundering, fraud that had long been kept under wraps but was now surfacing as his projects stalled, and repeated visits from

external auditors to his office.

One thing was certain: the name Daven Callister was once again shaking national headlines. The latest reports even claimed he had been summoned to court to testify in connection with several charges-testimony that could very well turn him into a suspect himself.

“Harold is really playing this game beautifully,” Selena said with a light laugh. She gently swirled the glass of wine she had prepared, savoring it as a companion to watching the slow collapse of Callister Group.

She took a leisurely sip, closing her eyes for a moment as the wine slid down her throat. “Ah… how delightful. And Althea-do you see this? Your husband is powerless.”

Her smile grew sharper, more condescending. “I can’t wait for the day the news is everywhere-Daven bankrupt, maybe in prison, or reduced to nothing after his assets are frozen. And then.. there’s me, already beginning to be recognized as part of the Miller family. And I’ll make sure you won’t be there much longer either.”

Selena’s phone vibrated on the table. At first, she only glanced at the name- -or rather, the lack of one-on the screen. The display lit up repeatedly, the same unknown number. She stared at it for a few seconds, then curled her lips into a knowing

smile.

She knew exactly who it was.

“Yes?” she answered, without preamble.

“You took long enough,” the voice on the other end was low, cold and laced with pressure. “I’m starting to wonder if you’re really serious about this plan.”

Selena snorted softly. She leaned back comfortably against the sof, crossed her legs, and fixed her gaze on the window leading to the balcony. “If I weren’t serious, how could I have given you so much information about the Miller family?”

On the other end, the mysterious man clicked his tongue.

“So… what I’m seeing on the news-your doing?”

“Hm.” He chuckled briefly. “That’s right. The chaos is quite impressive, isn’t it? Callister Group’s pride project, Jiangshe Construction, is nearly collapsing. International media are starting to sense that something’s off because of what I’ve spread. But it’s still not enough.”

Selena rolled her eyes. “You’re always in such a hurry. Slow down, Tarold. For all you know, they might start suspecting something.”

“Because our time is limited,” he shot back. “Callister is wobbling Legal pressure, investors losing faith, the public already chipping away at its foundation. What are we waiting for? This is when you move into the Miller main house. Not later. Now.”

Selena rose to her feet and walked toward the window. From the balcony, the bustle of GreenVillage spread out below her.” Getting into that house isn’t like walking into an empty office. Riaa and Nathan are there. They’re not easily fooled by sob stories. You know that.”

“I don’t care who’s there,” he cut in. “There’s only one thing that matters-you need to be at the center of that family before Callister truly falls. You understand what I mean.”

Selena smiled faintly. “I always understand what you mean. But you also need to understand my way of doing things.”

“Your way?” His tone hardened. “You said you were almost there.

“That’s true,” Selena replied calmly. “Just one more step.”

“That one step is taking too long.”

Selena chose a wicker chair on the terrace and sat down. The wind blew hard from the opposite direction, tossing her long hair into disarray. She didn’t bother fixing it. If anything, she let the small chaos remain, as if to show she wasn’t cornered.

“If I push them now,” she said casually, “they’ll only shut themselves off even more. Riana Miller isn’t the kind of woman who bows to blunt pressure. I need them to open the doors of that house of their own accord.”

There was a brief silence.

“You’re too confident,” the man finally said, impatience seeping into his tone.

“No,” Selena countered lightly, the corner of her lips lifting. “I’m realistic. Riana Miller won’t be moved by direct demands. But she will waver when the balance of her family is disturbed.”

“That’s your job, Selena,” the man cut in coldly. “I put you there to shake the peace of that family-especially the shadow of a ‘ perfect’ man like Chase Miller.”
