Chapter 553
Meanwhile.
Selena stepped out of the dining room with her posture straight and her pace measured. Her expression had returned to its usual cold composure, as if whatever had happened at the breakfast table meant nothing to her.
Even though, deep down, irritation simmered-sharp and restless-at Eli’s increasingly defiant behavior.
Last night, when she tried to talk to her, the girl had deliberately locked her bedroom door.
Damn it.
Her warning had been perfectly clear. But apparently, a warning wasn’t enough. She would have to do more- something that would remind Eli exactly who was in control.
“Eli needs to be dealt with,” she murmured under her breath.
Before leaving the area completely, Selena stopped beside a servant who was carrying a tray.
“You,” she called without fully turning.
The servant immediately approached. “Yes, ma’am?”
“I want breakfast in my room,” Selena said, her tone flat but demanding. “Prepare an egg-white omelet, whole wheat toast, fruit salad without bananas, and fresh orange juice. Add hot black coffee. Make sure it’s the right temperature. I don’t like it when it isn’t hot.”
The servant blinked, caught off guard. “But I was –
))
“You’re a servant in this house, aren’t you?” Selena folded her arms across her chest, her eyes narrowing in displeasure. “Why are you arguing with my order? Do you know who I am?”
“Y-Yes, ma’am.” The servant quickly tried to memorize the list, thinking the request was finished.
But Selena wasn’t done.
“And send low-fat yogurt with granola,” she added. “Not too sweet. I don’t like overly sweet flavors.”
“Yes, ma’am.’
“Immediately,” Selena said, this time looking directly at her. “I don’t like waiting. And don’t miss a single item. Understood?”
“Yes, ma’am. We’ll prepare it right away.”
Only then did Selena turn and walk toward her room with confident, imperious steps, as if the entire house were under her command.
The moment she entered, she shut the door and locked it.
Her hand lingered on the handle for a second, making sure it was secure. Then she glanced through the narrow gap toward the corridor, checking that no one was outside.

Still not satisfied, she listened carefully. No footsteps. No approaching voices. “Good. Safe,” she thought, a faint smile forming.
Selena took a slow breath and walked to the window, pulling the curtains halfway open-just enough to make sure there were no suspicious shadows outside.
Only then did she take out her phone. She searched for the name that had contacted her not long ago.
Harold.
Her finger pressed the call button quickly. The ringing tone lasted only a few seconds, but it felt longer than
usual.
Then the line connected.
“Harold,” she spoke first, her voice low but tense. “Finally. We can talk freely.”
On the other end, the man’s voice sounded exactly as it always did-calm, steady, without the slightest hint of panic.
“You’ve been calling too often,” he said lightly.
Selena frowned. “I couldn’t reach you for days. Bret’s been detained, and the news about him is everywhere. Oscar’s been dragged into it too. And you expect me to stay calm?”
Harold let out a short laugh.
“Bret and Oscar?” he said dismissively. “Two fools who panic the moment pressure hits. I warned them. They’re completely unreliable, Selena. So relax.”
Selena let out an irritated breath. “How am I supposed to relax when everything we planned is falling apart— and I couldn’t even reach you? How am I supposed to stay calm, huh?”
She dragged a hand through her hair, frustration spilling out in the small, restless motion.
“Calm down,” Harold said smoothly. “We’ll reset. We’ll reorganize what needs to be done.”
Selena fell silent for a moment. The ease in his voice slowly began to loosen the tight knot in her chest. “So…. this isn’t a problem?” she asked carefully.
