HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 715

Chapter 715

Cale dropped to his knees in front of him. “I’m here. Help is on the way. I’ve already arranged-”

XuanMing Chen shook his head, a faint smile forming on his lips. Blood slipped from the corner of his mouth, but he paid it not mind. “It’s too late,” he said quietly. “We can’t save everything.”

Cale shook his head. “There’s still a way-”

“No.” The voice was weak, but firm. “Listen to me, Chen Kailun. My proud son.”

Cale fell silent.

“Protect my youngest daughter.”

The words were soft, yet heavier than anything he had ever heard.

“She is the only heir.”

The old man’s hand trembled as he reached for Cale’s arm, gripping it with what little strength he had left.

“Protect her with your life.”

Cale nodded without hesitation. He clasped the bloodstained hand firmly. “I will, Master Chen. I swear I will.”

The old man’s gaze softened. “I know.” That faint smile appeared again. “You’re the only one I can rely on.” He drew in a long breath, as if gathering the last of his strength. “I give you my blessing… as husband and wife.”

The world seemed to stop.

Cale froze, staring at him in disbelief. The words didn’t make sense, yet within the dream, they felt far too real to reject.

The grip on his arm weakened, slowly slipping away until it was gone. The hand fell limp, lifeless. The smile faded as the old man’s eyes closed, leaving Cale alone in a vast, hollow silence.

And a promise he could never break.

Darkness swallowed everything.

Cale woke with a sharp breath, his chest rising and falling rapidly. Sweat dampened his temples. For a moment, he didn’t move. He just stared ahead, trying to convince himself that what he had just experienced was nothing more than a dream.

Beside him, Lydia stirred. Her eyes opened, immediately sensing something was wrong.

“Cale?” Her voice was soft, but laced with concern. “What is it?”

He turned to her, his expression already under control, though his breathing hadn’t fully steadied. “Nothing,” he said shortly. ” Just woke up.”

“Was it… a nightmare?”

Cale forced calm into his tone. “No, my love.” He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. “Did I wake you? Go back to sleep.”

Lydia pushed herself up slightly, bracing on one arm. She studied his face longer than usual. “You didn’t disturb me. But… are you alright?”

“Yes.”

“Are you sure?” she asked, doubt flickering in her voice.

Cale nodded. “I’m fine. Really.”

But Lydia didn’t move. Her gaze stayed fixed on him, as if trying to read what he wasn’t saying. “Can you not keep things from me, Cale?”

The question held him there for a moment, his eyes lingering on hers. “I’m just… thinking too much about Naomi’s safety, sweetheart.”

Lydia seemed to understand. “Maybe because you were too hard on her earlier?”

“Maybe,” Cale said, a faint smile touching his lips. “But because of this, there’s something I need to make sure of.”

Lydia waited, her attention fully on him, anticipating what he would say next.

“As long as Naomi stays safe, Falcon needs to be dealt with.” The words came out calm, but they carried far more weight than a simple plan.

“How?” Lydia asked.

Cale didn’t answer, but the look in his eyes said enough. “What I’m going to do… it’s better if you don’t know.”

“Why?” Lydia protested. “If it’s dangerous, we face it together.”

Cale shook his head. “No.”

She stared at him. “What do you mean?”

“I’ll handle this myself. But for now, you can’t go back to the main Miller residence or to Althea’s family. I’m going to move you somewhere-”

Lydia froze. “Me? Leave on my own?”

“Yes,” Cale said firmly. “Somewhere safe. With Naomi.”
