HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 733

Chapter 733

Naomi’s question made Lydia stare at her in surprise. How could something like that come out of her mouth so innocently?

And because of that, Lydia laughed.

The atmosphere inside the gazebo that evening instantly felt warmer, more familiar than it had in days. After everything tense and exhausting they had gone through recently, who would have thought such a simple question could soften the air between them this much? The sunlight was slowly sinking behind the trees in the mansion’s backyard, spilling warm golden hues across the surface of the swimming pool. The evening breeze moved gently through the garden, carrying the scent of damp grass and blooming flowers scattered around the yard.

One of the workers tending the garden was cleaning an area not far from the gazebo where they sat together.

Naomi sat curled up on the long bench, hugging her knees to her chest. Her hair was still slightly damp from swimming earlier, left loose without bothering to dry it properly. Her eyes stayed fixed on Lydia, filled with unmistakable curiosity.

“You… don’t want to answer?” Naomi suddenly looked awkward. “Sorry if that was rude.”

“It’s not that.” Lydia moved closer and took Naomi’s hand. She seemed to think for a few seconds before finally smiling faintly.

“I honestly don’t really know either.”

Naomi frowned immediately. “Nobody falls in love for no reason.”

“They do.” Lydia let out a quiet laugh. Her gaze drifted toward the garden ahead of them, as if she were staring at something buried deep in the past. “Maybe I didn’t realize it at first,” she said softly. “Because he was way too annoying to like.”

“Ah, that part I agree with.”

Naomi’s quick response made Lydia laugh again.

Things felt much lighter between them now. Not stiff and uncomfortable like when they had first started living together. Naomi still tended to keep her distance sometimes, but little by little, she was beginning to open herself

Lydia studied Naomi’s face for a moment before speaking again, her voice quieter this time. “There was a period in my life that was really bad. I told you about it before, didn’t I?”

Naomi nodded slowly. “Was that why?”

Lydia shrugged lightly. “I don’t know. I can’t really explain whether that was part of the reason.” Her expression softened as she continued. “Back then, my life honestly felt completely ruined. And during all of that… Cale was always there.”

Naomi’s gaze slowly shifted. “What do you mean, there?”

“He didn’t talk much.” Lydia smiled faintly at the memory. “Sometimes his presence actually irritated me. But every time things felt too heavy, somehow he would always appear.”

Naomi listened quietly.

“He’s not the type who knows how to comfort people,” Lydia continued with a soft chuckle. “But somehow, he

always makes sure bad things stay away from me without me even realizing it.”

The evening breeze drifted through the gazebo once more. Naomi watched Lydia carefully, noticing how much gentler her expression became whenever she talked about Cale. And somehow, that made it difficult to connect this version of him with the Chen Kailun Park Jin had described earlier.

The man feared by countless people. The one who controlled Hong Kong’s underworld.

And at the same time, the man who quietly made sure his wife could live peacefully like this.

“Has he ever scared you?” Naomi asked suddenly.

Lydia looked slightly surprised by the question, but she didn’t answer right away. “Sometimes,” she admitted honestly a few seconds later. “Especially when he’s angry.”

Naomi nodded quickly at once. “See? Exactly. He really is terrifying.”

“But not because I thought he would hurt me.” Lydia smiled faintly. “I was afraid because he always chose to carry everything by himself.”

That answer slowly silenced Naomi.

Her gaze unconsciously dropped to the hand Lydia was still holding. Suddenly, she remembered how furious Cale had been when Naomi tried to hand herself over to Falcon.

He had looked genuinely angry, as if Naomi had just said the stupidest thing imaginable.
