“Oh, of course.”

“Please go ahead, Miss Chen.”

Naomi immediately escaped before they could stop her again.

The moment she stepped away from the crowd in the main hall, she finally let out a long breath of relief.

“Oh my God,” she muttered, pressing a hand lightly against her forehead. “Why do they all suddenly want to matchmake me?”

Her steps quickened as she walked through the side corridor, far quieter than the main hall behind her.

“And what was that supposed to mean earlier? That Mr. Miller should’ve been with me?” Naomi clicked her tongue in annoyance. “As if! He only belongs with Mrs. Lydia. Those old men seriously have no filter when they talk,” she grumbled under her breath.

The corridor stretched endlessly ahead, lined with glossy black walls and dim golden lights that cast soft reflections across the marble floor. The voices from the main hall gradually faded the farther Naomi walked away.

Yet somehow, the further she went, the quieter everything around her became.

“Um… where’s the restroom?” Her eyes scanned the area, searching for the sign pointing toward where she was supposed to go. Before turning earlier, she had clearly seen the direction indicated to the right. But… “Why is this hallway so long?”

Naomi slowed her steps slightly.

A faint crease formed between her brows.

Just moments ago, she had still seen several guards standing near the corridor area.

Now there was no one.

Only herself.

Naomi slowly glanced behind her.

Right.

No one.

A faint chill crept up the back of her neck.

“This is weird,” she murmured softly.

She started walking again, slower this time.

Then suddenly-

Click.

Every light went out at once.

The darkness swallowed everything in an instant, leaving Naomi completely blind. Total blackness. Not even the

faintest trace of light remained.

And damn it… she had left her clutch back on the table.

Naomi froze where she stood.

Her heart seemed to stop for a split second before slamming violently against her chest hard enough to echo in her own ears. The corridor turned pitch-black within seconds. No light. No shadows.

She couldn’t even see her own hand. The first few seconds felt unbearably long. Naomi could hear her breathing becoming uneven. Then suddenly, chaos erupted from the direction of the main hall.

“What happened?”

“The lights are out!”

“Security!”

The sound of chairs scraping harshly against the floor rang out. Voices overlapped all at once.

But those sounds felt far away.

To Naomi, this dark corridor felt far more terrifying than the commotion happening inside the main hall.

Her breathing became increasingly unstable.

She reached out blindly, her fingers brushing against the cold wall beside her. Trying to walk slowly while forcing herself to remember which direction she had come from.

“Daniel?” she called softly.

No answer.

“Daniel?”

Still silence.

Naomi slowly took a step backward.

Her chest tightened more and more. She tried to remember the way back to the main hall, but in complete darkness like this, every direction felt exactly the same.

And that was when she heard something.

Tok.

Tok

Tok.

Footsteps.

Slow. Heavy. Echoing faintly from the far end of the corridor.

Naomi’s entire body instantly tensed.

The sound kept getting closer.

Tok.

Tok.
