“Are you insane?” Naomi’s eyes widened instantly after hearing Chris speak so carelessly.
Chris laughed at her reaction. “You should’ve seen his face last night. For the first time in my life, I felt like my brother actually knew what stress was.”
“Chris!” Naomi glared at him in disbelief. “If you talk like that, anyone listening might think I’m stuck in the middle of Mr. Miller and Mrs. Lydia’s relationship!”
“I’m serious.” He was still chuckling to himself. “Normally, he looks like a man who doesn’t even have emotions.”
Naomi continued glaring at him, still annoyed that Chris could casually say something so ridiculous.
“I’m not accusing you of doing anything bad,” Chris said lightly before casually throwing an arm around her shoulders.
Naomi immediately let out an indignant squeak, struggling to push him away. “Chris! Let go of me!”
“First, get rid of those weird ideas about what I said.”
“But you made it sound like I’m between them!”
Chris burst out laughing even harder. “No, no. That’s not what I meant at all.”
Eventually, Chris released her.
Naomi still looked annoyed as she immediately walked away from him without another word. But without Chris noticing, the corners of her lips had slowly begun to lift ever so slightly.
Chris quietly noticed the small change anyway.
Thank God.
At the very least, the girl was finally starting to smile again, even if she was doing it while yelling at him.
Their trip to Sun City happened that very night, exactly as Cale had said it would.
Naomi only brought a single small suitcase. Even though nobody had told her how long they would stay there, she still needed to prepare herself.
From the moment they left the Chen residence, Naomi immediately noticed something different compared to before.
Their security had become much tighter.
“How’s the situation now?” Cale asked while scrolling through several documents on his tablet. “Don’t let the media catch wind of what happened in Hong Kong.”
Chris let out a short sigh. “I already had the central team control everything. But some investors are starting to question why you suddenly disappeared. Dad never made any official announcement about you stepping away from handling the Sun City project.”
“Let them ask.”
“You know it’s not that simple.” Chris briefly glanced at the wound on his brother’s hand before continuing, “Especially with Dad’s condition still unstable.”
Cale’s gaze remained fixed on the screen in front of him. “That’s exactly why I’m going back.”
Naomi quietly listened to their conversation.
She didn’t truly understand the business world Cale had been living in all this time. Whether it was TnC Group or the complicated ties between the Miller family, Cale, and the Chen family, everything felt far beyond her understanding.
But little by little, Naomi began realizing something.
Cale’s world was far bigger and far more complicated than she had ever imagined.
