“I think I should have a serious talk with Naomi about this,” Cale decided.

“Yeah, maybe she’ll be more willing to listen. And... does Lydia know the full story?” Daven asked curiously.

“Of course.” Cale let out a quiet sigh. “At first, I wasn’t planning to tell her, but...” He shrugged. “I can’t lie to her.”

Chris scoffed. “Can you honestly admit that you’re afraid of Lydia?”

Chris’s remark earned him a cynical look from Cale. Then he stood up, apparently considering their conversation finished. “I’ve told you everything. Do either of you still have any objections?”

Daven stared at Cale for a long moment before shaking his head. “Oh, since the whole family is together, how about we go camping this week?”

Both Chris and Cale gave Daven strange looks at the idea, which was a little too... sudden, but then—

“I think that’s a good idea. Besides, Dad could use some fresh air.”

Daven grinned broadly. “You can’t say no, Cale. Especially if Josh and Grace find out about the plan. How often do they get the chance to go camping together?”

“Yeah, alright.” Cale finally relented. “I’ll have Vincent find a suitable location. You know I can’t let my guard down.”

They left the library and went back to their respective activities. Daven chose to walk down the corridor toward the east wing where his small family lived. Meanwhile, Chris headed to where the children were. He said he wanted to practice basketball with Josh.

Unlike them, Cale chose to go to his father’s study. According to him, there were still several matters regarding the TnC Group he managed in Carrington Bay that needed to be discussed.

As Daven stepped into the master bedroom he shared with Althea, his pace unconsciously slowed. The sight that greeted him always had a strange ability to gradually make all the tension weighing on his shoulders disappear.

Althea was sitting in a chair by the window, holding Chase Junior in her arms.

The child already looked sleepy.

His round eyes were half-closed. His head rested comfortably against his mother’s shoulder while his tiny hand still clutched the edge of Althea’s cardigan.

The afternoon sunlight streaming through the window wrapped them in a warm golden glow. And for a moment, Daven simply stood there.

Taking in the sight and carefully storing it away in his memory. Because after everything they had been through, simple moments like this still felt like a gift.

“I know you’re standing there.”

Althea’s voice made Daven smile. “Do you?”

“Because you’re staring at me like a weirdo.”

Daven chuckled softly. Then he continued walking toward her and said, “I’m just admiring my wife.”

Althea immediately rolled her eyes. But the faint blush that appeared on her cheeks did not escape Daven’s notice. Even after years of marriage, she still reacted like that.

“And Grace definitely had him doing all sorts of things.” Daven smiled broadly at the thought.

“Without a doubt.”

They exchanged smiles before the room grew quiet again. Daven watched as Althea gently rocked Chase.

Her movements were so natural, so full of affection. Just the same as when Grace had been small enough to fall asleep in her arms. There was only one thing Daven still deeply regretted to this day.

He had not witnessed firsthand how Josh grew up surrounded by Althea’s love.

He was certain that she had poured all of her love and affection into Josh. But unfortunately, he had not seen it. And Daven had no intention of repeating the mistakes of the past.

To him, Althea had become the most comforting home Daven had ever known.

Without realizing it, he reached for his wife’s hand and pressed a brief kiss to the back of it.

Immediately, Althea turned to look at him. “What now?”

“Am I not allowed to?”

“You’re making me suspicious.” Althea stared intently at her husband.
