“Starting now?” Chris asked.

“There are a lot of us,” Althea replied, already busy organizing what needed to be purchased. She began making a list of necessities while muttering to herself.

Meat. Vegetables. Barbecue equipment that needed to be brought out from storage. The tents they would need. Bedding. Chase’s toys. And various other necessities that kept making the list longer.

“I’ll go with you tomorrow,” Daven said.

“Of course you have to.” Althea grinned. “Help me carry the groceries. As for the rest, I’ll assign everyone their tasks.”

“That sounds terrifying,” Chris muttered under his breath as he whispered to Josh. “We need to find a loophole so we don’t end up doing too much, Josh.”

“But Uncle Chris,” Josh said, looking directly at him, “aren’t you the one who knows where most of the supplies are stored in the warehouse?”

“I already told Tedy where everything is. So we can just ask Tedy to get them.” Chris flashed a broad grin. “That means we’ll have plenty of time for basketball practice again.”

Josh laughed. “Yeah, I agree.”

The two of them exchanged a high five.

“You two are really making me want to give you even more tasks.”

“DON’T!” Josh and Chris replied in unison.

Everyone burst out laughing again.

Meanwhile, Chase, who had been busy playing with a plastic spoon, started yawning.

Althea immediately turned to Lydia. “Lydia.”

The woman instantly became alert. “What?”

“Please watch Chase for a little while tomorrow.”

“We have to go to the supermarket.”

Lydia blinked in disbelief before pointing at herself. “Me?”

“Of course.”

Althea tried to suppress a smile. “It’s a good opportunity to learn.”

“What am I supposed to learn?”

“How to take care of a toddler.”

Lydia’s expression immediately turned incredulous. “Why do I need to learn how to take care of a toddler?”

The little boy leaned his tiny body toward Lydia as if he wanted to move to her.

“I think he’s trying to call for you, Lydia,” Daven said with an amused chuckle. “Come on, you might as well accept your new assignment from Althea. Together with Cale. The two of you will take good care of Chase.”

Lydia pouted in annoyance, but she did not truly mind.
