HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 853

Lydia stared at her husband for several seconds before finally laughing softly.

“Good heavens, Cale.”

“What?”

“You really are excellent at reading business,” Lydia said cheerfully.

“I’ll take that as a compliment.”

“But when it comes to things like this, you’re truly slow.”

Cale frowned. Resting his head on one hand, he continued looking at his wife intently.

“Slow?”

“Very slow,” Lydia said again.

She picked up Cale’s coffee and handed it to him. Then she took her own tea, enjoying it while spending the remaining time before they finally went to sleep.

“Chris started looking different whenever he was around Naomi. Maybe... after the camping trip?”

“Really?”

Lydia nodded without hesitation.

“I don’t believe it,” Cale argued. “There’s no way Chris is seriously interested in Naomi. Their communication is terrible.”

“That’s because Chris spends more time teasing Naomi.”

Lydia took a small sip of her tea, slowly closing her eyes as she enjoyed the sweet, soothing taste that filled her mouth.

“But I feel that Chris pays more attention to Naomi.”

“Why are you so sure?”

Cale set down his coffee cup after taking a small sip.

“Just a feeling.”

Lydia set her own cup down as well.

“No wonder Chris didn’t complain when you asked for his help protecting Naomi the way you wanted. Even though... the two of you argued about it, didn’t you?”

“Of course.”

Cale let out a long sigh.

“But everything turned out exactly as I expected. If Naomi hadn’t arrived with Chris tonight, I’m sure Silas would have monopolized her attention.”

Lydia let out a small yelp. Reflexively, she wrapped her arms around Cale’s neck to keep her balance. The teacup on the table trembled slightly. Fortunately, they had both placed their cups in the center of the table earlier.

“Cale!” Lydia whispered, half protesting, though the blush on her cheeks and the smile she was trying to suppress could not hide her amusement. “What if a servant comes in to collect the tray?”

“The door is locked, and they know when to keep their distance,” Cale replied casually.

Both of his arms wrapped possessively around Lydia’s waist, keeping her exactly where she was. The sharpness that usually lingered in his gaze had completely softened. It reflected only his wife’s image and was filled with immense love and affection.

And all of it was directed solely at Lydia.

Lydia let out a resigned sigh, allowing her fingers to straighten Cale’s slightly disheveled hair.

“You always have an answer for everything.”

“Only when it concerns my peace of mind with you.”

Cale buried his face briefly in the curve of Lydia’s neck, breathing in the familiar scent that always managed to dissolve whatever tension remained from the night.

“Today was very long. Dealing with those people out there nearly split my head open.”

Hearing the exhaustion hidden beneath her husband's voice, Lydia’s heart softened. She stroked the back of Cale’s neck with slow, soothing movements.

“You did very well today, Cale. Looking after Naomi, keeping Silas in check, attending the banquet even though you didn’t want to. At the very least, those who doubted you have little choice now but to admit that you aren’t easily shaken.”
