HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 855

“I would investigate that man's background down to the very roots. Even if it were Chris, I would make sure he had no secrets that could hurt Naomi,” Cale answered so quickly and firmly.

Truthfully, Cale himself was puzzled by how quickly the answer had come. But if he examined his relationship with Naomi even a little, what he had just said was only natural. Cale cared about Naomi.

Lydia laughed softly, hiding her face against Cale’s chest. “I’m serious, Cale. Beyond all your investigations.”

Cale fell silent for quite a while. His gaze settled on the cups of tea and coffee growing cold on the table. His thoughts wandered, imagining this house without the presence of the stubborn girl whose growth he had quietly kept an eye on all this time.

“Maybe...” Cale paused, his voice softening until it was almost a whisper. “...I’d feel her absence.”

The smile on Lydia’s face gradually faded, replaced by a warm sense of emotion.

She knew how reluctant Cale was to admit sentimental things, yet that answer had been absolute honesty.

Naomi had entered their lives unexpectedly. Part of her husband's past was connected to that girl. A great responsibility and a level of care befitting a member of the family. And without anyone realizing it, the girl had quietly become part of the foundation of their family.

Lydia tightened her arms around Cale’s neck and kissed his cheek affectionately.

“Then start getting used to it now, Mr. Slow Cale. Because sooner or later, she’ll find her own path.”

Cale lowered his gaze and met Lydia’s understanding eyes.

The man lowered his head slightly, leaving only the smallest distance between them, close enough for his warm breath to brush across Lydia’s skin.

“Should I take off your dress, or will you?” Cale whispered, his voice low, rough, and filled with deep insistence.

Before Lydia could answer, Cale lowered his lips close to her ear and added in a sensually threatening tone, “Because if I’m the one who does it, don’t blame me if parts of it end up torn.”

Lydia did not answer with words.

She simply grabbed the collar of Cale’s shirt, closing the remaining distance between them, and let that long night disappear completely into the warmth that belonged to the two of them.
