Lydia slowly turned toward her husband. "Did you hear that, Cale?"
Cale frowned deeply.
"Chris just told me 'none of your business.'"
"And?" Cale asked innocently.
Lydia let out a frustrated sigh at her husband's reaction. "Good grief. You're really slow."
Before the atmosphere at the dining table could become even more awkward, Chris casually cut into the conversation. "I'm taking Naomi to visit a few universities today."
Naomi immediately looked up in surprise, nearly dropping her spoon. "Wait, I—"
"That's a good idea," Lydia cut in quickly, giving Naomi no chance to refuse. She then turned to her husband. "You don't mind, Cale?"
"No," Cale replied flatly, though his brows drew together slightly as he was still trying to understand the unusual exchange between Lydia and Chris that morning.
Naomi shot both of them irritated looks in turn, but neither paid any attention to her silent protest.
Now fully invested in the conversation, Cale spoke up as well. "Which universities?"
"Several that are already on Naomi's shortlist," Chris answered calmly. He then turned slightly in his seat, focusing on Naomi, who still looked flustered by this sudden plan. "Which ones?"
Before Naomi could recall her list of universities, Cale interrupted again in an interrogative tone, "How long will you be gone?"
"Not sure."
"Are you driving yourself?" Cale asked, making sure, ensuring both his brother's and Naomi's safety.
"Yes."
"Daniel isn't coming? Or Vincent?"
Lydia finally burst out laughing, breaking the stiff tension that had been hanging over the dining table. She gently patted her husband's arm, signaling for him to stop cornering his younger brother.
Cale let out a short breath, realizing he had just been teased. However, his expression turned serious again as he set his coffee cup down on the table. His gaze fixed directly on Chris, no longer with an interrogative tone, but with a firm warning.
"Bring Naomi back before sunset," Cale said, his voice low but full of emphasis. "Remember our current situation. Silas and Falcon won't just sit still after what happened last night. Pay attention to your surroundings, stay alert, and don't let your guard down for even a second."
Chris nodded slowly, understanding the seriousness behind his brother's words. "I know. I won't let anything happen to her."
After hearing Chris's assurance, Cale turned to Naomi, who had been listening anxiously the entire time. "Naomi, finish your breakfast and get ready."
"Ah, yes, okay," Naomi replied, quickly finishing the rest of her juice.
Half an hour later, Naomi came back downstairs. She had chosen to wear casual clothes; a pair of fitted jeans paired with a loose-knit sweater in a soft cream color. Her hair, usually styled neatly, now fell naturally over her shoulders, with only a small clip on one side holding back a few loose strands. She wore no heavy makeup, though she had made sure her face did not look pale.
Chris, who had been waiting in the sitting area near the staircase leading to the second floor, looked up as soon as he heard footsteps. The man suddenly fell silent, his gaze locked on Naomi for several seconds. There was a restrained glimmer of admiration in his eyes; Naomi looked incredibly beautiful in her simple outfit, which highlighted her natural charm.
