Lydia, standing behind Cale, immediately moved. Without saying a word, she wrapped an arm around Naomi's shoulders and gently but firmly guided the girl into the house, away from the center of the storm.

Naomi could only glance back at Chris with a guilty look before the front door closed behind them.

Now only Cale and Chris remained in the corridor outside the sitting room, which suddenly felt far too narrow and silent.

Chris had to face his brother alone. Throughout his life, he had never experienced Cale's anger this cold and frightening. There was no shouting or raised voice, yet the intimidating aura radiating from Cale was enough to make the hairs on the back of one's neck stand on end.

The man remained standing rigidly, staring at his younger brother with eyes as sharp as blades.

"Where have you been?" Cale asked. His voice was low, almost a whisper, yet that tone was precisely the most dangerous one a Cale Miller could use.

"Cale, we only—"

"Three hours, Chris. Three hours I've had my people searching the city because you decided to disable the trackers and ignore calls from this house."

"I deliberately avoided Daniel because I knew you were spying on us," Chris defended himself, trying to justify his position even though he knew he was in the wrong.

Cale let out a short snort, a hollow laugh filled with disappointment. "Spying? Do you think this is some teenage romantic joke? Do you think your situation is safe right now?"

Cale grabbed Chris by the collar. Not hard, but firmly enough to force his younger brother to look him straight in the eye. Chris could not bring himself to argue any further. He realized that his brother was genuinely angry with him.

"Silas Evermont is waiting for us to let our guard down. Falcon is watching Naomi's every move," Cale hissed directly in front of Chris's face. "If one of them had intercepted her out there while you were busy playing hide-and-seek with your own bodyguard, what would you have done? Would you take responsibility if something happened to Naomi?"
