HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 925

Silas caught the change. "There it is." He finally laughed. "That's the expression I wanted to see."

Cale finally took one step forward.

His leather shoe crunched over the shards of glass scattered across the floor. The soft crack was startlingly clear in the corridor, which had gradually fallen silent again as the gunfire began to subside. Dust still drifted through the air, while the smell of gunpowder stung the nose of everyone standing there.

His gaze never left Silas. Those eyes were as cold as steel. They held none of the explosive fury one might expect. Instead, they were far too calm, enough for anyone who knew Cale to understand that his anger had gone far beyond what words could express.

"I'm giving you one chance." Cale's voice was low, nearly drowned out by the alarm that continued to blare throughout the building. "Hand Lydia over."

Silas did not answer immediately.

He merely tilted his head slightly, as though considering an offer he had never intended to accept from the very beginning. The corner of his mouth slowly lifted into a faint smile that never reached his eyes.

"Or what?"

Silence filled the corridor once again.

Cale didn't even blink. "You won't live long enough to regret everything you've done."

His voice remained flat. There was no shouted threat, no display of emotion.

Yet it was that very calmness that made several of Silas's men exchange glances. They knew the reputation of the leader of the Obsidian Circle. The calmer the man spoke, the more terrifying what came afterward would be.

Silas let out a short laugh.

He casually spun the pistol in his palm before slipping it back inside his jacket, as though the weapon wasn't even necessary to deal with the man standing before him.

A slight frown crossed Silas's face. "And what's that?"

For the first time, Cale took another step forward. And with that, the distance between them grew even shorter. "How long it will take me."

He stopped just as sunlight streaming through a shattered window illuminated half of his face. "To destroy everything you have."

The words came out so quietly they were almost a whisper. Yet every single one of them was sharper than any threat.

Silas was no longer smiling. For a brief instant, something shifted in his eyes. It wasn't fear, but the realization of one thing. The man standing before him hadn't come merely to save Lydia.

He had come... to end everything.
