HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 953

Lydia's eyelids felt incredibly heavy as they slowly opened. The sunlight filtering through the sheer curtains immediately pierced her vision, forcing her to close her eyes again for a few seconds.

A dull throb pulsed through her head, while her body felt so weak, as though every ounce of strength had been drained from it. She let out a slow breath, trying to steady her heartbeat, which was still uneven.

The scent of antiseptic filled her senses.

It wasn't the distinctive smell of a hospital. Instead, it was mixed with the fragrance of pine wood and the faint aroma of coffee still lingering in the air.

Lydia opened her eyes again, this time more carefully. The ceiling was made of dark brown wooden beams. The walls were dominated by natural stone combined with wooden panels, while large windows overlooked a stretch of green trees swaying gently in the morning breeze.

This wasn't a hospital. Even though the room was filled with medical equipment, it felt surprisingly warm. The scent of pine wood and the morning sunlight made it resemble a villa far more than a treatment room.

Even so, an IV stand stood beside the bed, with a clear fluid still dripping slowly into the back of her hand. A portable monitor displayed her heartbeat in a steady rhythm, while in one corner of the room, several complete sets of medical equipment had been neatly arranged on a stainless steel table.

Two oxygen tanks stood against the wall, and a large medical case remained open, revealing various emergency supplies that had yet to be put away. Someone had truly turned one of the villa's bedrooms into a temporary treatment room.

Lydia frowned.

Several parts of her body ached. Her left shoulder was wrapped in a thick bandage, as were her arm and the side of her waist. The moment she tried to move even slightly, a sharp sting shot through her body, causing her breath to catch.

Slowly, she began to feel that something was wrong. She closed her eyes again, trying to remember what had happened. At first, only fragmented images surfaced, with no clear sequence.

A stuffy warehouse, the excruciating pain in her abdomen, then the arrival of a doctor who examined her. At that moment, the sound of continuous gunfire echoed around them. She had no choice but to leave that place if she wanted to survive.

Then came the image of a man lying limply beside her. Blood kept seeping from his abdomen. The thick crimson liquid stained Lydia's hands as she tried to calm him, while the doctor on the other side of the man struggled to save his life.

Jasper.
