Cale knew Brandon was blaming himself, but he also knew there were no words that could lift that burden.
"I already failed as Falcon's younger brother." Brandon let out a bitter laugh at himself. "And now a girl who has nothing to do with my family has to bear the consequences."
Cale stood up and placed a hand on Brandon's shoulder. "This isn't your fault."
"If it isn't my fault," Brandon said, staring blankly at the floor, "then why can't I find any peace, Mr. Cale? I should have taken far stricter precautions, knowing that Falcon and his actions were often unpredictable."
Cale gave no response. Only the sound of heavy breathing filled the room.
A few moments later, Brandon rubbed his face roughly, trying to regain what little composure he had left. "Falcon has been taken into custody."
Those words shifted the direction of the conversation.
"Mr. Daven took him to a secure location. He's still alive."
Not the slightest change crossed Cale's expression.
"He deliberately spared his life." Brandon finally forced himself to meet Cale's eyes. "We're all waiting for your decision."
Cale's gaze turned cold. "Don't touch him."
Brandon gave a slight nod. "I understand."
He drew a deep breath before continuing, this time with a much steadier voice. "And as for my family, especially my father, Don Falcony..."
Cale turned to look at him.
Brandon clenched his fists. "Leave that to me."
Something in Cale's expression shifted slightly.
"Whatever happens after this," Brandon continued quietly, "I'll face it myself. They're my family. If they choose to stand with Falcon and Silas, then I'll be the one to put an end to all of it."
The room fell silent once again.
Cale looked at Brandon for a long moment. He knew that the man sitting before him was no longer carrying only the wounds from the gunfight, but had also made a decision that might sever his own blood ties.
"All right." Cale gave Brandon's shoulder a gentle pat. "I need to get back to the ICU."
"I hope Miss Naomi wakes up soon," Brandon said hopefully.
"So do I." Cale let out a quiet sigh. "Get some rest. Don't think too much. The sooner you recover, the sooner we can deal with the people who caused all this chaos."
Brandon gave a quick nod. "Of course, Mr. Cale."
When Cale returned to the ICU, the atmosphere in the corridor was just as silent as before. Chris still stood outside the intensive care unit, while Daven leaned against the wall a few steps behind him. No one spoke. Time seemed to move much more slowly in that place. Every second felt like a punishment for everyone who was waiting.
