Chapter 118
Lila clicked her tongue and rolled her eyes at them before nudging Grandma Hale’s arm. “Grandma, what is Mom up to now?”
Grandma Hale opened one eye just a crack. “Whatever she wants. Mia isn’t coming back anyway. At this point, I wouldn’t care if she forced your brother to marry a donkey.”
Lila sat up and leaned toward her grandmother. “That won’t do! If my sister-in-law is a donkey, the next generation of the Hales will have donkey genes. I’d be laughed to death!”
“Hmph.” Grandma Hale glared at her. “Stop being a brat. I told you to keep an eye on Mia and Jaxon Rivers. How is that going?”
“They’re… doing great. I’ll tell you more when I have the chance.” Lila had been busy lately. The last time she’d checked on Jaxon and Mia was when they’d both gone to Sunbrook.
Grandma Hale sighed. “I’ll find time to feel out the Rivers family. I’m just afraid they won’t make it easy for Mia to join them.”
“I’ve heard the Rivers are quite snobbish. I hope Mia can secure her position through the child.” Lila felt the Rivers family couldn’t possibly ignore their own bloodline. After all, it was a little life.
As the two were chatting, the roar of an engine sounded from outside.
Through the blinding headlights, Ethan’s silhouette gradually became clear. He entered the villa, shed his coat, and draped it over his arm as he strode into the room.
When he reached the living room and saw Chloe’s red eyes, his hardened expression softened slightly. “Why are you still crying?”
Hearing his voice, fresh tears began to well up in Chloe’s eyes.
How could she not cry?” Miranda grabbed a tissue and wiped Chloe’s tears. “Have you seen how nasty those news reports are? You have to give Chloe a proper explanation today.”
Ethan tossed his coat aside and sat on the sofa next to Chloe. “What kind of explanation?”
The two of you need to get engaged as soon as possible.” Miranda didn’t hesitate. “The 30th is a good day. You aren’t allowed to refuse again!”
In an instant, everyone in the living room turned to look at Ethan.
Ethan went silent for a moment, his Adam’s apple bobbing before he spat out a single word: “Fine.”
Immediately, Chloe was overcome with joy. She nearly burst out laughing.
‘Good.” Miranda couldn’t stop smiling as she patted Chloe’s hand. “Ethan is busy with work, so you’ll have to handle the engagement preparations yourself. Tomorrow, the two families will have dinner to discuss the specifics.”
Chloe nodded like a little chick pecking at grain. “I understand, Miranda.”
Her ears turned bright red as she looked at Ethan with shy, adoring eyes. Finally, she was getting engaged to Ethan!

Grandma Hale sighed, stood up, and grabbed her cane. “Grandson, help me back to my room so I can sleep.”
‘I’ll do it” Lila started to get up, but seeing her grandmother’s disapproving look, she immediately changed direction. “I’m going to bed, too.”
Ethan stood up, told Chloe to “get some rest,” and then helped Grandma Hale back to her room.
The group in the living room dispersed, everyone heading to their own rooms.
At her bedroom door, Grandma Hale pushed Ethan’s hand away. “Grandson, your mother is selling you out, and you’re helping her count the money.”
Ethan opened the door and flipped on the light. “Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing.”
What do you know?” Grandma Hale huffed. If he really knew what he was doing, would he have let a woman as beautiful as Mia go just to get engaged to Chloe?
Ethan saw right through his grandmother’s thoughts. He said in a low, heavy voice, “You should also keep one hing in mind-Mia and I are already divorced.”
