Chapter 133
Dozens of eyes turned toward Mia Carter, some filled with pity, others with amusement.
Surprisingly, Zoe Parker only spared her a glance, failing to gloat with her usual malice.
The frosted glass of the meeting room window revealed Miranda Hale and Sandra Bennett sitting inside. They were leaning close; talking while occasionally glancing out toward the office floor.
They were clearly there for blood.
Mia realized there was no running away. Her heart skipped a beat as she turned and walked toward the meeting
room.
The moment the door opened, two piercing gazes locked onto Mia’s face.
‘Ms. Hale, Mrs. Bennett.” Mia closed the door and gave a slight nod. “You wanted to see me?”
Miranda let out a cold laugh. “Why would we want to see you? Are you really going to play dumb?”
Mia shook her head. “I honestly don’t know.”
This was Sandra’s first real confrontation with Mia.
She studied Mia with a judgmental eye. “You intentionally pushed my daughter down the stairs at the engagement party yesterday. Do you really think we wouldn’t find out?”
Do you have any evidence?” Mia asked calmly.
Does a thing like this even need evidence?” Sandra replied, her voice full of self-righteous fury. “Dozens of us
aw it with our own eyes!”
If she gave the word, every guest who had attended the party would testify for her, claiming they “saw” exactly
what she wanted them to see.
Mia’s hands, hanging at her sides, suddenly clenched into fists.
As expected, they were pinning the entire disaster on her.
She had been so desperate to finalize her resignation because she wanted to leave before they could make a move. She hadn’t expected them to show up so quickly.
‘Mrs. Bennett, Ms. Hale… I’m an orphan, not an idiot. I wouldn’t push Ms. Bennett in front of so many people.”
‘You- Sandra’s face contorted with rage at Mia’s defiance.
Mia cut her off before she could speak. “If you don’t believe me, you can call the police.”
Sandra had assumed she was dealing with a helpless, weak orphan. But after only a few sentences, her opinion of Mia shifted instantly.
This woman was incredibly calculating!
“You were married to Ethan for two years,” Miranda said, her expression grim. “If this goes public and you leak that information, it will do nothing but harm the Hale family.”

Miranda leaned forward. “You know perfectly well we won’t call the police. Is that why you think you can get away
with this?”
If the police interrogated her, the fact that Mia and Ethan had been married would be impossible to hide.
Mia felt cornered. It seemed no amount of explaining would work.
‘I’ve told you the truth. Whether you believe it or not is up to you.”
Sandra shot a look at Miranda, her eyes practically screaming that this was a confession!
Miranda gave her a subtle signal.
She adjusted her posture, looking down at Mia from her high horse. “I’m going to hold a press conference. You will apologize to Chloe in front of the cameras and admit that you were the one who sabotaged her engagement
