Claim 50 Corns By Check in
Chapter 141
Half an hour later, at Northbrook General Hospital.
Mia Carter hopped out of the taxi and hurried toward the inpatient department.
On the third floor, she pushed the door open, but before she could even see what was happening inside the ward, someone grabbed her hand and pulled her back out.
Aunt May led Mia to a dead-end at the corner of the hallway. Before Mia could even react, the older woman
burst into tears.
How is Carly?” Mia’s heart raced as she saw her crying.
The doctor suspects… he suspects it’s leukemia!”
Aunt May sobbed, her voice trembling. “I thought she could grow up to be just like you. Who knew…”
Don’t cry yet. The final results aren’t out. She’ll be fine!”
Mia comforted Aunt May, though she was also trying to convince herself. She saw a lot of her younger self in Carly-the girl was quiet, hardworking, and excelled in her studies. Not only was her background heartbreaking, >ut her maturity was also painful to witness.
I hope so too. Carly doesn’t know yet, so don’t tell her!”
Aunt May wiped her eyes and composed herself. “Nina is in the ward with her. Let’s go in.”
Mia took a deep breath, adjusted her expression, and followed Aunt May back into the room.
t was a double room. The patient in the next bed was a woman in her fifties who looked quite ill. The atmosphere vas stiflingly oppressive.
Carly lay on the bed, her small face looking pale and sickly.
Mia!” She smiled when she saw Mia enter, reaching out a thin, pale hand.
Mia sat beside her and gently took the girl’s hand in hers.
Be a good girl, Carly. Is there anything you want to eat? I’ll go buy it for you.”
Carly shook her head. “No, thank you. Aunt May just bought me some buns.”
The young girl was tall for her age but very thin. Her hair had a yellowish tint, but her dark eyes were clear and full of pure kindness. Mia looked at her, her brow furrowing slightly.
Then what do you want for lunch?”
Carly pointed to the two remaining buns on the table. “Just heat those up.”
We’ll eat those,” Nina Torres said, picking up the leftovers. “Carly, tell us what you want, and we’ll get it for you!”
‘Anything is fine,” Carly replied with a smile. “I’m not a picky eater.”
Aunt May sat on the other side of the bed. “Such a good girl. Your big sisters want to treat you, so just say the word.”

“The doctor said I should keep my diet light. Some porridge or something like that is fine.” Carly blinked her dark
eyes.
Mia nodded. she pulled up a chair and sat down, chatting with Carly about random things.
As lunch approached, Mia and Nina left the ward to grab a quick bite nearby and bring something back for the
others.
Once they stepped outside the hospital, the air felt much fresher. Nina let out a long sigh.
‘I really hope God has a heart. That girl has suffered enough.”
Mia pulled out her phone and sent a message to Kevin Brooks, asking for a few days off.
‘I’ll stay at the hospital to look after her for the next few days,” Mia said. “You go home and take care of your son. Toby is still small; don’t keep coming to the hospital or you might bring germs back home. I’ll call you when the
results come in.”
Nina looked at Mia’s belly. “You’re in no position to get sick right now! And there isn’t even a proper cot in the ward. How are you going to sleep?”
