lan Reed carried a takeout box as he shut the door and walked over to the bed where the woman next to Carly was ying. He spoke in a low, hushed voice.

The woman sat up, forcing a small smile. “I’m not hungry yet. You’ve been running yourself ragged these last few days.”

‘It’s nothing. Go on, eat.” Ian set the lunch out, urging his mother to start.

But as he finished setting it up, he realized he had forgotten something. “I was in such a rush I forgot the chopsticks. I’ll go buy some right now.”

Mrs. Reed immediately stopped him. “I’ll just eat some buns. We can save the side dishes for dinner. It’s almost ime for you to head back to work anyway. You should get some rest!”
