Chapter 180

Grandma Hale’s excessive warmth and concern were making Mia feel pressured.

Even without the child, she couldn’t calmly accept this arrangement.

‘But then… you need to marry into a good family later!”

Lila was so anxious she almost blurted out that if she wasn’t part of the family, her chances of marrying into the Rivers family were slim!

Mia stood up, “struggling” out from between the two of them.

Grandma, Lils, I have my own plans and arrangements. I hope you can see things from my perspective and

understand me.”

The moment she said this, Grandma Hale realized that Mia truly did not want this.

Grandma Hale let out a sigh, her eyes filled with affection.

Fine. Since your mind is made up, I won’t bring this up again.”

Hearing this, Mia let out a sigh of relief.

But you should come to Grandpa’s birthday banquet. Come as Lila’s friend.”

Grandma Hale thought that the closer Mia stayed to the Hale family, the better her chances of marrying into the Rivers family would be.

Having just refused the adoption, Mia felt that refusing the banquet invitation as well would break the old

woman’s heart.

Mia could only agree. “Alright.”

You really are my only friend!” Lila’s smile was radiant. “Let’s find some time to go shopping together. We’ll pick >ut dresses for the banquet and a gift for Grandpa.”

Mia nodded again. “Okay.”

As they finished their conversation, the office door was pushed open from the outside.

Ethan Hale strode inside.

‘Get ready. Richard Vance is coming over to sign the contract in a bit.”

He shot a sidelong glance at Mia before walking over to his desk and sitting down.

Seeing him, Mia’s heart skipped a beat.

But he looked no different than usual.

Could it be that he hadn’t overheard her conversation with Aunt May?

“What are you standing there for?”

Ethan frowned, looking at Mia, who was still standing in place.

Mia gathered her thoughts, gave Grandma Hale and Lila a parting look, and left the office.

“You, you.” Grandma Hale pointed at Ethan disapprovingly. “With that stubborn donkey temper of yours, it’s a good thing Mia didn’t stay with you for a lifetime, or you would have frustrated her to death.”

Ethan reached for a file to process, his hand pausing for a fraction of a second. “In your heart, she’s closer to you than I am.”

Twice in a row now, Grandma Hale had come here specifically for Mia.

‘Obviously,” Grandma Hale huffed. “The greatest contribution you’ve made in your life was marrying Mia so that I could get to know her.”

Ethan: “…”

Lila let out a snort of laughter.

Ethan shot her a sharp look, and she immediately went quiet.

‘You’ve seen Mia. Is there anything else?”

No. Grandma Hale stood up, supported by Lila as they walked toward the door.

Lila requested time off every single weekday; she felt that only resting on Saturdays and Sundays was for suckers.
