Mem

When he didn’t move, Mia sighed and hopped out of the driver’s seat. She opened the back door and leaned in to help him.

She reached across his broad chest, her slender arms brushing against him. Her dark hair was pinned back, but a few loose strands grazed her cheeks as she moved.

Her scent hit him a faint, sweet fragrance that assailed his senses.

Ethan’s eyes flickered open, landing right on her soft, beautiful face.

Maybe his gaze was too heavy. Mia’s hands faltered, her lashes fluttering as she looked up at him.

Their eyes locked. Ethan’s were like a dark whirlpool, deep enough to suck her in and drown her.

Mia’s breath hitched.

A sharp car horn blasted, cutting through the quiet night.

Mia snapped out of it. She clicked his seatbelt shut, slammed the door, and scrambled back to the driver’s seat.

She gunned the engine and peeled away. It took a few miles before she even dared to glance at the rearview mirror.

Ethan was leaning back against the seat, eyes closed. His breathing was shallow and steady. He looked as if he had drifted off to eep.

It was just a look. A single, drunken look, and she was already a total mess.

Mia took a deep breath to steady herself and floored it.

Ethan rarely got this wasted. The alcohol was hitting him hard, making his head throb.

That brief touch from a moment ago felt like a feather brushing against his chest.

Mia’s scent that familiar, soft scent stirred a heat he’d been trying to bury for way too long.

in his daze, her fragrance filled his senses, refusing to let go.

Ethan rubbed his temples and cracked his eyes open just enough to see Mia’s profile. She looked beautiful.

Those cherry-red lips, those sparkling eyes, and that perfect face every bit of her was a trigger for the alcohol-soaked man.

A while later, the car came to a stop,

Mia got out, walked around to the back door, and reached in to unclick the seatbelt.

‘Mr. Hale, we’re home.”

Ethan shifted and stepped out of the car, but his legs gave way. He stumbled.

Mia’s hands flew out instinctively to steady him, but she ended up slamming right into his chest,

She stumbled back, nearly tripping, but a powerful arm hooked around her waist, locking her in place.

Before she could blink, the world spun. Ethan slammed her back against the car door.

He leaned in, his mouth crashing onto hers with pinpoint accuracy.

The kiss was raw, hungry, and completely overwhelming. It stole the air right out of her lungs in an instant.

Her fingers gripped the fabric of his shirt. She tried to say something, but he swallowed her words whole.

Mia had rarely seen Ethan this drunk. She had no idea he turned into this when he was wasted.

But “out of control”? That was a look she’d seen plenty of times.

During their two-year marriage, Mia’s monthly five-day cycle was pure torture for him.

Every time it ended, he would lose it.

It was exactly like this the way he was devouring her, his breath coming in ragged hitches, desperate and starving for more…

Ethan’s warm palm gripped her waist. His fingers were quick, yanking her shirt out from the waistband of her skirt.

The moment his cool fingertips hit Mia’s skin

Mia snapped back to reality.

She shoved him back hard. “Mr. Hale, you’ve had too much to drink.”

Maybe he’d mistaken her for Chloe.

Ethan leaned back against the lamppost. The overhead light cast deep shadows across his face, masking whatever he was thinking.

Go home and get some sleep. I’m leaving.”

Mia climbed into her car and slammed her foot on the gas, peeling away into the night.

In the rearview mirror, his silhouette under the streetlamp grew smaller and smaller until it vanished completely.

One look from him had been enough to rattle her.

But the kiss? That had left her a total wreck.

She drove home but stayed in the car once she arrived. She rolled down the window, letting the biting air hit her face while she ried to pull herself together.

Right then, her phone buzzed. It was Nina, making her daily check-in.

Still out this late?”

Nina heard the wind whistling through the phone and sounded worried. “How many days in a row have you been pulling overtime? You’re going to burn yourself out, Mia,”
