Chapter 241
Sandra Bennett swung the balcony door open.
“Chloe…”
Before she could even finish her sentence, Chloe Bennett spun around and shoved past her, storming out of the
room.
Sandra stumbled against the wall, breathless and panicked. “Ethan, go after her! Quick!”
Chloe had fled so quickly that the people in the living room barely had time to react.
Ethan Hale’s brow furrowed, his gaze following Chloe’s retreating figure, but he didn’t move an inch.
“What are you just standing there for?” Sandra urged, her voice frantic. “She’s a young girl who put aside her pride to apologize to you. Do you have any idea how much sleep she’s lost because she felt so guilty about this?”
“That’s enough!”
Derek Bennett couldn’t take it anymore.
The atmosphere in the Hale family living room was a mess of conflicting emotions. No matter how much Chloe claimed she didn’t mean it, she was the one who had caused this disaster. Now, she was running away crying as if the Hales were the ones bullying her.
Was Ethan really supposed to go and comfort her after all this?
Derek stood up and gave a stiff nod to the Hale elders.
Mr. Hale, Mrs. Hale, we will make sure Chloe is properly disciplined when we get home. Our family is esponsible for this mess. As her parents, we apologize on her behalf.”
Sandra returned from the balcony, but before she could open her mouth to make more excuses, Derek shot her a warning glare.
The words she had planned to use to smooth things over turned into an apology instead. “Yes, of course… we are io sorry…”
With a few more awkward pleasantries, the Bennett couple was escorted out by the staff.
Once they were gone, Miranda Hale took a deep breath, trying to ease the tension.
Chloe is just a bit naive,” Miranda said. “She doesn’t have a devious bone in her body. She’s not as… calculated as
Mia Carter.”
The balcony door was still open. Ethan stood outside, smoking. His long, clean fingers held a slowly burning :igarette. The smoke swirled around him, adding a layer of cold mystery to his silhouette.
Miranda glanced at him, trying to gauge his reaction, but Ethan remained unreadable.
‘Don’t you dare compare Mia to her.”
Grandma Hale’s wrinkled face was set in a mask of disapproval.
The girl has nothing to do with Ethan anymore, yet you people love to drag her through the mud just because she’s

the ex-wife. I heard she’s tried to resign several times already.”
At that, the old woman shot an annoyed look toward the balcony at Ethan.

Some people just don’t understand how the world works. This whole mess today? It’s entirely your fault.”
With those few blunt words, she laid out all the hidden grievances Mia had been carrying.
