His Secret Baby: Six Months After Divorce (Mia and Ethan) novel Chapter 245

Chapter 245

Neither of them would back down. The matter of the transfer was at a complete stalemate.

Mia Carter remained suspended. As she walked out of Ethan Hale’s office, several colleagues approached her, heir eyes filled with curiosity. “Ms. Carter, are you here to finalize your resignation”

When Mia told them no, their gazes turned speculative and meaningful.

Ruby Foster wasn’t surprised. She was heading down to the second floor to deliver some files and decided to walk

with Mia.

So, how does Mr. Hale plan to handle you?”

The word “handle” was chosen perfectly.

Mia shook her head. “Nothing is set in stone yet.”

Ethan had already relented on the transfer. Whether she would eventually resign was still up in the air, but one hing was certain: she wouldn’t be coming back to the office anytime soon.

Since nothing was official, she didn’t breathe a word of the details to anyone.

After leaving Bayview, she headed straight to Nina Torres’s place, arriving just in time for dinner.

Toby was lying in his stroller, his large, dark eyes fixed intently on the dinner table.

Nina had been up late livestreaming and was currently nursing a cup of extra-strength black coffee. She took a ip, her brow furrowing into a deep, painful knot.

The bitterness is endless,” Nina muttered. “I wonder if the sweetness will ever come.”

Mia was busy eating a small chicken drumstick, using it to tease little Toby.

It will,” she said firmly.

Her certain tone made Nina look up immediately.

What happened? Did you decide to go head-to-head with them?”

Ethan and his world were as hard as steel, while Mia was more like delicate porcelain. How could she possibly win n a collision?

in terms of background, Mia was no match for Chloe Bennett.

In terms of power, she couldn’t touch Ethan.

What did she have to fight with?

Mia’s life had been remarkably “smooth” in its own way. From the orphanage to a top-tier university, though the days had been hard, her path had always been clear.

After graduating and joining Bayview, she had been promoted steadily by Ethan.

As someone with no background, she had climbed to a position where her rewards far outweighed the typical ratio of effort to gain.

Because of this she had developed a quiet resilience deep in her bones.

It was that very resilience that gave her the nerve to challenge Ethan at work.

All the ‘smoothness’ in her life had vanished the moment she realized she was pregnant.

She had become cautious, walking on eggshells, wanting only to escape cleanly. Instead, she had somehow tripped

and fallen deeper into the mess-trapped between Ethan and Chloe.

Looking at Chloe’s attitude during the apology that morning-forcing out the words only to have her face transform the moment Ethan’s back was turned-it was clear.

Even if Mia didn’t snap back at her, the grudge between them would only continue to deepen.

Mia really couldn’t afford a direct confrontation with them, which was exactly why she couldn’t back down on her resignation.

Whether Ethan was happy or angry didn’t matter anymore; she could no longer stay at Bayview.

She told Nina about the fake apology at the hospital.

Nina downed the rest of her concentrated black coffee in one go. “Satisfaction! Suddenly, the coffee doesn’t even aste bitter!”

Mia finished her drumstick, tossed the bone, and went to the kitchen to wash her hands.

When she came back, Nina looked worried again.

What if you really offend Ethan? What then?”

Mia sat back down, her hand pausing as she reached for her chopsticks.
