Chapter 25
Mia stayed silent, her face a mask of pure resistance.
“I know nothing actually happened,” Jaxon continued. “But if this video leaks? I don’t think Chloe Bennett is going to be quite so understanding.”
He had seen Mia push Ethan away.
But he was the only one who had. If this clip got out, nobody would believe for a second that they hadn’t ended up
in bed.
‘Tell me your terms first, Mr. Rivers,” Mia said, refusing to bite blindly.
Jaxon flashed a winning smile. “Relax. I wouldn’t dream of being too hard on a beauty like you. Here’s the condition: when you quit Bayview, you give Riverside the first look. You come work for me. How’s that sound?”
Mia’s brow furrowed. “Get to the point. What do you want from me right now?”
‘Be my lackey for two days,” Jaxon said, arching a brow with a cocky, bad-boy smirk. “Relax. It’ll be after Bayview goes on holiday break.”
Mia stared at him. The request caught her completely off guard.
She’d been sure he’d use that video to blackmail her into jumping ship to Riverside.
If it weren’t for those two years of marriage to Ethan, she would have never let him push her around.
She could easily pull the security footage from Ethan’s place. It would prove to Chloe that nothing happened
tonight.
But Chloe and Miranda already hated her guts. They were just looking for an excuse to ruin her.
She couldn’t afford to make things more complicated..
Jaxon lost the deal and couldn’t touch Ethan, so he was taking his frustration out on her.
After weighing her options, Mia spoke up. “Fine. But I’m not doing anything illegal, and you can’t force me into anything I don’t want to do.”
Jaxon was a wild card, but his reputation wasn’t that bad.
Mia wasn’t worried about him actually hurting her.
“Deal,” Jaxon snapped, not hesitating for a second. “Wait for my call once the holidays start.”
He straightened up, a sharp glint flickering in his eyes before he turned and hopped into his car.
A few minutes out in the cold was all it took to chill Mia to the bone.
She didn’t even wait for Jaxon to pull away. She turned her back and hurried into the lobby.
Bayview was officially on break, along with almost every other company in the city. Whatever Jaxon wanted her to do as his “assistant,” it definitely wouldn’t be about work.
At least it wouldn’t cause any trouble for Ethan or the company.

Maybe Jaxon would make her drive across half of Northbrook just to fetch him a roasted sweet potato.
She was prepared for those kinds of petty games.
What Mia wasn’t prepared for, however, was seeing Ethan the next day.
He’d been so out of it. He probably wouldn’t even remember what happened tonight.
Even if he did, it was just a mistake the alcohol talking.
She was likely the only one losing sleep over it.
Mia rossed and turned all night, only drifting off as dawn began to break.
When her alarm finally blared, she woke up with a headache that felt like a sledgehammer to the skull.
As her senses returned, a wave of exhaustion hit her. Every bone in her body ached.
she’d been nursing a mild cold ever since that late night working at the Hale estate.
Between the bug and the brutal overtime lately, her body had finally hit its breaking point. She was burning up.
Normally, Mia would’ve just popped some Advil and powered through the day.
