His Secret Baby: Six Months After Divorce (Mia and Ethan) novel Chapter 271

Chapter 271

This wasn’t the first time Aunt May had pulled a stunt like this.

Carly snapped out of her daze quickly and began taking large bites of the apple.

‘Come outside. I need to talk to you.”

Mia Carter’s eyes, clear as water, were clouded with a layer of simmering fury.

The look in her eyes made Aunt May’s heart skip a beat.

Mia stepped out of the ward first and waited for her at the end of the long hallway. After a long wait, Aunt May finally emerged.

‘What could be so important that you can’t say it in the room? I’m worried about leaving Carly alone,” Aunt May said. Her tone was accusatory, but it was laced with deep-seated anxiety.

After all, she had a guilty conscience.

Mia handed her the manila envelope, not even deigning to look at her. “Give me an explanation.”

What explanation?” Aunt May refused to take the envelope, pushing it back toward Mia. “If you have something o say, just say it.”

Mia’s hand dropped to her side. She stared coldly at the older woman. “Either you read this and explain yourself, >r I take all of this to the police station.”

Hey, you!”

Aunt May gasped and snatched the manila envelope away. She ripped it open, and with just one glance, her >reathing became ragged. Her guilt was written all over her face.

What is all this? I don’t understand any of it.”

Where is the money?” Mia ignored her attempts to play dumb.

Seeing that she couldn’t hide it any longer, Aunt May stopped pretending. “Fine! So Carly isn’t sick. I only did it or your and Nina’s own good! You both have such great futures and careers here in Northbrook. Why do you nsist on leaving?”

There’s a whole family at the Orphanage counting on you to provide-”

‘Over the years, you’ve taken most of the money Nina and I have earned,” Mia interrupted sharply. “The debt of gratitude we owed the Orphanage has been paid back tenfold!”

Mia’s voice was ice. “We have our own lives and our own plans. We promised we wouldn’t stop supporting the Orphanage, but what you’ve done… not only have you broken our trust, but Carly? She’s just a child! Do you have any idea how much psychological damage this could do to her?”

Mia had always seen Aunt May’s sharp-tongued, bitter nature, but she rarely made an issue of it. She respected the fact that Aunt May had worked hard to keep the Orphanage running all these years. No matter how unpleasant the woman was, she had raised dozens of children. Mia had chosen to endure it out of respect for that

effort.

Even if Mia didn’t need that money to leave Northbrook and raise her child, Aunt May’s actions had crossed a line she couldn’t ignore.

What plans? She’s having a baby, and now you are too?” Aunt May’s guilt had fully transformed into defensive aggression. “Aren’t there enough fatherless, motherless children at the Orphanage for you to pity? You two have ost your minds!”

Now that the truth was out, Aunt May turned brazen. “She used IVF, but what about you? Which random guy did you get pregnant by? Mia, I always thought you were the sensible one, not impulsive like her. Who knew you’d be just as emotional! Were you dumped by some scumbag? Or are you planning to suffer in silence and have the baby just to try and win him back? Relationships are worth nothing-”

Aunt May had watched Mia and Nina grow up. Nina was open and bold; she didn’t want a man, so she chose IVF o be a modern woman. Mia was different-she was steady and mature. She wasn’t the type to do something like

hat.

Therefore, Aunt May was certain that Mia had been with a man and gotten pregnant. The fact that she was planning to leave Northbrook with Nina was proof enough that things had ended badly with whoever the father vas. She assumed Mia was just being sentimental by keeping the child.

That is my business.”

Mia looked at her with cold eyes, delivering her final ultimatum. “I’m giving you three days to get Carly back in chool and return the money you took from me and Nina.”
