“You… have a boyfriend?”

Ian Reed looked completely bewildered.

If Mia Carter really had a boyfriend or a husband, why would she have agreed to a blind date? She should have told him the very first day he decided to pursue her.

Mia was at a loss for words. She couldn’t give him an immediate answer.

lan hesitated for a moment, his expression returning to normal. “Sorry. Did I cause you any trouble?”

He was referring to his daily morning and evening greetings over the past few weeks, as well as the rumors at the office. He wondered if the father of the child in her belly had found out.

‘I’m sorry. I was a bit out of line,” Mia said with a slight nod.

‘It’s fine.” Ian stepped to the side to create some distance between them. “I’m here to pick up my mother from the hospital. They’re waiting, so I won’t keep you.”

Mia nodded again.

The two parted ways at the hospital entrance, heading in opposite directions.

When Mia returned to her place, Nina Torres was still sleeping. Mia played with Toby until it was almost time for

unch, which was when Nina finally crawled out of bed.

Nina plopped down on the sofa and leaned her head on Mia’s shoulder, reaching out to pull Toby into her arms.

‘Son, if this keeps up, are you going to be closer to your godmother than your own mother?”

Toby babbled a few sounds in his own baby language.

Mia smiled at her. “No matter how much I watch him, he’ll always be closer to his mom.”

‘I’m not saying he shouldn’t be close to you. Honestly, I wish he only recognized you and not me,” Nina joked. “That way, you could stay home and raise the kid while I handle the money, the food, and the fun.”

Nina’s obsession with Toby only lasted as long as he was being well-behaved. The moment he started causing trouble, her patience vanished.

Mia let out a cold snort and took Toby back. “Go wash up. Lunch is almost ready.”

Toby still recognized his mother; he let out a few whimpers when he was handed over. He looked at Nina with pitiful little eyes and waved his tiny hands.

“Go play with your godmother first. Mommy’s going to brush her teeth and wash her face, then I’ll feed you, okay?”

Nina spoke in a high-pitched, gentle voice before getting up to head to the bathroom.
