His Secret Baby: Six Months After Divorce (Mia and Ethan) novel Chapter 340

Chapter 340

Since you’re already here and refusing to go up, what exactly did we come for?”

Cole Preston spoke up lazily from the backseat.

“It’s no longer necessary,” Ethan replied.

His expression suddenly hardened. He caught Cole’s eye in the rearview mirror and frowned. “Get out. Fend for yourself in Everett.”

“You didn’t leave me a single cent. I’ve missed two meals and slept in a 24-hour ATM lobby last night.”

If he hadn’t reached his breaking point, Cole wouldn’t have come crawling back to him.

Ethan’s face remained cold. “I hope you starve.”

‘Fine I guess I’ll be out of the Preston family’s hair for good. I just hope you’ll remember I once saved your life and find a decent plot of land to bury me in.”

Cole looked entirely resigned to his fate.

Ethan’s gaze grew sharp. “Stop using that to threaten me. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t need either of

you to save me.”

No one knew that Chloe Bennett hadn’t been the only one who saved Ethan back then-Cole had been there, too. Cole was the one who had insisted on keeping it a secret. He didn’t want the Preston family to use his relationship with Ethan as an excuse to suck up to him. He wanted them to give up on him and leave him alone.

I think you just don’t want to owe ‘her’ another debt,” Cole said meaningfully. “Ethan, I never thought I’d see the lay you made a wrong decision. It’s not too late to regret it.”

Ethan narrowed his eyes, his jawline tensing.

After a long silence, he changed the subject. “I’ll transfer some money to you. Now get out.”

Deal.

Cole pushed the door open and stepped out.

Things had progressed to a point where it wasn’t just about Ethan anymore; it was about the Hale family and the Bennett family.

He paused by the driver’s side window. “Those people in the Bennett family… none of them are good. You really should watch your back.”

Ethan rolled up the window without responding.

The Bugatti remained parked there for nearly half an hour before finally driving away.

Meanwhile, Stella Lewis was in Mia’s office, giving her a literal thumbs-up of admiration.

‘Ms. Carter, you were amazing! I just saw Winston; his face was darker than a burnt pot. And that director’s son?

When he left, he looked like a hideously angry bull…”

The first battle had been won, but Mia knew that now that the gloves were off, the trouble coming her way would

only get worse.

Still, seeing Stella so happy made Mia offer a small smile.

“Keep a close eye on Julian Cole from now on.”

‘Why don’t you just find a reason to replace him?” Stella asked.

She figured if Mia could take down a department manager, dealing with Julian should be easy.

‘A danger you can see is better than a knife in the dark,” Mia explained.

‘Fair point. I’ll handle Julian,” Stella promised, patting her chest confidently.

In the afternoon, Nora Gonzalez came to see Mia regarding the PR manager’s termination.

‘He has years of experience. I spent a fortune headhunting him. Firing him won’t do us any favors.”

‘In other words, you’re still choosing to stand with Winston Henderson.”

Mia hit the nail on the head.

Nora’s throat tightened. It took her a moment to find her voice. “I don’t want to offend either of you! But there’s no good ending no matter who I work for. I feel like you’re all trying to drive me out of the company!”

The sooner you pick a side, the better. If you choose me now, I can ensure your position as HR Director remains secure in front of Mr. Hale. Winston won’t be able to touch you.”

Mia arched an eyebrow.

She wasn’t just hinting to Nora anymore-she was giving her a direct invitation to join her.

Yet, Nora remained silent.

Mia’s phone rang. It was Leo Martinez.

‘Leave. Give me your answer tomorrow morning.”

Mia’s expression darkened. She didn’t have anything more to say to Nora.

Nora wanted to speak, but the persistent ringing of the phone forced her to leave the office.

Mia swiped the screen and answered Leo’s call.

“Ms. Carter, is Mr. Hale with you? Something urgent has come up and I can’t reach him!” Leo’s frantic voice came through the line.
