His Secret Baby: Six Months After Divorce (Mia and Ethan) novel Chapter 369

Chapter 369

Mr. Gallagher was still talking when he suddenly felt the atmosphere shift.

He looked at Ethan Hale, whose face had turned so grim and icy that it sent a shiver down the older man’s spine.

‘Mr. Hale?”

‘Mr. Gallagher, excuse me.”

Ethan dropped those words coldly, turned, and walked toward his car.

Mr. Gallagher stared at his retreating back, stunned. He didn’t even dare to follow him to see him off.

When Ethan reached the car, he looked through the partially lowered window. Mia Carter was lying inside, asleep.

She was covered by his black knit sweater, her face half-buried in the fabric. Her eyes were closed, her long, curled lashes resting against her skin.

Ethan leaned against the hood and lit a cigarette. His gaze lingered on her every few seconds.

She had lied to him.

But he couldn’t figure out “why” she would lie about something like this.

The nicotine hit his lungs, slowly clouding his mind. Usually a man of absolute logic and composure, he felt like a otal mess. Or perhaps, he had been unraveling for a while now, and only tonight had the chaos finally peaked.

Mia wasn’t sleeping soundly.

The faint, lingering scent of Ethan’s sandalwood cologne in the car made her feel restless. In her half-conscious tate, she opened her eyes a sliver.

she saw the silhouette of a man leaning against the hood, his hands braced against the car. The yellow glow of a

earby streetlight bathed him in warmth, reflecting off his black suit and casting him in a soft, orange light.

Mia pulled the sweater aside and climbed out of the car. “Mr. Hale, is it over?”

The interior of the car had been warm, and a thin layer of sweat had formed on the bridge of her nose. Her clear, lark eyes were bright but slightly rimmed with red, making her look like an innocent, startled rabbit.

Ian Reed is with Richard Vance’s daughter now.”

In the backlit shadows, she could only see the faint movement of Ethan’s lips.

Mia’s heart constricted. Her hands, resting at her sides, gripped the fabric of her dress.

‘Actually… I broke up with him before I even came to Everett,” she admitted quietly.

Ethan’s voice was unreadable. “Is that so?”

The tone was invasive, sinking directly into Mia’s chest. Her heart felt as though it had been pierced by a needle, thumping wildly as she tried to escape the suffocating pressure of his presence.

“Yes.”

She tried to maintain a neutral expression. Before the conversation could spiral any deeper, she added, “I’m a bit

tired, Mr. Hale. Why don’t you drive yourself home? I’ll just call a car for myself.”

She ducked back toward the driver’s side to grab her clothes and bag. Clutching her phone, she tried to walk away quickly.

But as she reached the back of the car, Ethan caught up to her.

He grabbed her arm-not too hard, but with enough force to stop her. She was pinned between him and the trunk of the car.

Ethan braced his hands on either side of her, trapping her within the narrow space of his body and the vehicle. The sense of claustrophobia intensified, especially with the way he was staring at her-his gaze was sharp and piercing.

Mia, when did you become so open? You find a man, jump into bed, get pregnant, and then dump him just like

hat?”

With every question, he leaned closer.
