I just think you’re impressive. You’ve really made something of yourself…”
Mrs. Gallagher let go of Mia Carter. Although she was smiling as she explained, an uncontrollable hint of sorrow lickered in the depths of her eyes.
The corners of Mia’s mouth quirked up in an awkward smile. “Thank you for the compliment, Mrs. Gallagher.”
I hope everything goes smoothly for you from now on,” Mrs. Gallagher added.
Mia nodded. “Thank you. I wish the same for you.”
The car pulled up in front of the restaurant, and a valet stepped forward to open the door.
As they got out, Mia deliberately tried to keep her distance from Ethan Hale. However, she felt even more incomfortable sticking close to Mrs. Gallagher right now, so she quietly drifted toward Ethan’s side.
Ethan, who had been striding toward the entrance, paused for a fraction of a second, his pace gradually slowing
lown to match hers.
nside the private room, a small square table was draped in a red cloth. A glass chandelier hung above, casting
nultifaceted, rainbow-colored light across the room.
Mrs. Gallagher and Ethan took seats at opposite ends.
Mia, who had entered a step behind them, hesitated for a moment. “Could you please add another chair here?”
Certainly.” The waiter placed a third chair at another side of the table.
Mia sat down in a spot that wasn’t directly next to either of them, maintaining a polite distance.
This was a restaurant Mrs. Gallagher frequented, and she ordered several authentic Everett dishes.
While they waited for the food, the atmosphere in the room turned somewhat awkward. There was a significant ge gap between them and Mrs. Gallagher, and they weren’t particularly close. Any small talk they could have nade had already been exhausted during the car ride.
As for more private matters, their relationship hadn’t reached that level of intimacy yet.
So, Mia, have you been permanently transferred to Everett? Are you not going back to Northbrook?”
Mrs. Gallagher always managed to find a topic, phrasing it in a way that felt natural.
Mia shook her head. “I’ll be in Everett for the short term. I’m not sure about the future yet.”
Everett is quite nice.” Mrs. Gallagher turned to Ethan. “She’s very capable. I’m sure she’ll manage the branch perfectly. You should feel at ease leaving this place in her hands.”
Under the dim, colorful lights, Ethan’s expression was unreadable. He didn’t answer.
Mia understood his silence. Even if there wasn’t a current rift between her and Ethan, Mrs. Gallagher was overstepping. She had no business interfering in Bayview’s internal personnel decisions.
‘I…”

After speaking, Mrs. Gallagher realized her mistake and tried to smooth it over. But before she could finish, her phone suddenly rang.
I’m sorry, I have to take this.”
She stood up with her phone, intending to step out, but was blocked by a waiter bringing the first course. She had no choice but to turn toward a corner of the room.
‘I-I’m out… I’m just having dinner with friends, I didn’t…”
Mrs. Gallagher glanced toward the table before moving from the corner out onto the balcony.
Once the balcony door shut, they could no longer hear what she was saying, but it was clear from her expression hat she was upset.
By the time the waiter finished serving the food, Mrs. Gallagher had ended the call and returned.
I’m so sorry. Something urgent came up at home. I have to head back.”
Mia stood up. “The food is already here. Why don’t you eat something before you leave?”
No, you two enjoy yourselves.”
As she spoke, Mrs. Gallagher had already grabbed her bag.
Mia grabbed hers as well. “I’ll see you out.”
