Nina opened her mouth, about to say “okay.”

“I’m sorry,

but something came up and we have to leave. Let’s reschedule for another day,” Mia interrupted. She gave Mrs. Gallagher a polite nod. “Mrs. Gallagher, I won’t take up any more of your time. I’ll be going now.”

“It’s almost noon. Why don’t we grab lunch together?”

Mrs. Gallagher checked her watch and gave a warm invitation. “Actually, I wanted to chat with you about Serena.”

The way she invited Mia sounded as if they were old friends who had bumped into each other and simply had to

share a meal.

“Mrs. Gallagher, we really do have other things to attend to,” Mia repeated.
