Chapter 71
“I’ll take care of her. She won’t be left on her own.”
Ethan wasn’t buying it. “You’d better think about how you’re going to explain yourself to the Board of Directors once I get to the bottom of this.”
“You…” Miranda gasped, her face turning pale.
Back home, Mia took a moment to clear her head. She pulled out her phone and finally accepted Jaxon’s friend request from the night before.
Jaxon Rivers hit her back with a meme almost instantly.
Mia Carter didn’t bother texting and went straight for a voice call. “Mr. Rivers, have you seen the news? Bayview is accusing me of leaking data to you. I need you to help me clear my name.”
Her voice was heavy, the situation clearly weighing on her.
Jaxon hadn’t even checked the news yet. He tapped on the finance headlines as they spoke.
“Holy shit. Which lowlife at Riverside pulled this shady move?”
Mia paused for a second. “…It was probably your father.”
Since Jaxon had been kicked out, his father was the one calling the shots at Riverside.
A scandal this big had Riverside’s fingerprints all over it. There was no way it happened without his old man’s green light.
“Damn,” Jaxon groaned, sounding stressed. “You know how my dad is. The man has no ethics and even less heart. If he’s the one behind this, you’re screwed.”
In other words, even if he wanted to help, he was powerless.
Mia hadn’t expected Jaxon to have so little pull with his own father.
“You should just take this chance to quit. When I get back to Riverside
Jaxon was cut off mid-sentence by another incoming call.
He swiped the screen to answer.
“Who is this?”

On the other end, Ethan Hale’s icy voice rang out. “Do you want your seat back at Riverside or not?”
Jaxon went dead silent.
Of course he did.
But the way Ethan said it like he held Jaxon’s entire fate in his hands pissed him off to no end.
“Be at Bayview tomorrow at 10 AM. Do exactly what I say.”
Jaxon stayed silent. But Ethan saw right through him. He dropped the order and hung up, damn sure Jaxon would obey.
Chapter 71
Fuck!” Jaxon hissed, slamming his phone onto the couch.
Was he really going to let that prick Ethan hold him by the balls?
Why the hell did he have to jump just because Ethan said so?
He was just a spectator. Saving Mia didn’t matter to him it mattered to Ethan. He
‘Wait.” Jaxon narrowed his eyes. “Is that bastard actually trying to help Mia?”

He grabbed his phone and dialed a number. “Find out what happened at Bayview today. Now.”
Ten minutes later, he had the scoop. Mia was being framed, and Miranda was the one pulling the strings.
Miranda wouldn’t go after Mia for nothing. This was definitely about Chloe.
She doted on Chloe more than if she were her own daughter.
And yet, Ethan wanted to protect Mia…
Things just got interesting.
A wicked glint flashed in Jaxon’s eyes. He hit call on Mia’s WhatsApp again.
Mia, look, I’ve been thinking. You’re in this mess because of me, and I can’t just leave you hanging. But I have one
condition.”
