Mor

But she couldn’t stay silent. Staying quiet was the same as a confession.

She stared at the side of his face, her voice trembling with a bitterness she couldn’t quite suppress.

‘I had no reason to betray Bayview,” she said, her voice shaking. “I had no reason to betray you.”

Chloe let out a sharp, cold laugh and stood up. “He’s giving you a chance to explain yourself, not to talk in circles!” Mia didn’t even glance at Chloe. Her eyes were locked on Ethan.

Her heart was already half-dead, but in that moment, a flicker of hope still rose up. What if? What if Ethan actually believed her?

If Ethan believed her, the board didn’t matter. As long as he took her side, she wouldn’t be branded a traitor.

Ethan!” Chloe snapped, her voice full of protest.

Chloe saw Mia’s eyes locked on Ethan. She tightened her grip on his arm. “You said you’d handle this by the book, Ethan. The evidence is right in front of us. There’s nothing left to say!”

Ethan’s jaw was a hard line as he looked at Mia.

No wonder you’re so bold, Mia. Hooking up with Jaxon Rivers must have given you quite a boost.”

Mia’s heart sank. He’d just sentenced her.

The photos were a mess on the table her and Jaxon in every single one. It looked like a done deal.

I think Mr. Lee is right. We can’t just let her walk,” Chloe pushed. “She needs to be fired and held legally esponsible.”

She couldn’t wait to see Mia ruined. “Ethan, call the Legal Department. Now.”

Mia’s breath hitched. She bit her lip, staring at Ethan, desperate for a sign.

Ethan checked his watch, his brow furrowed. He was waiting for something.

Knock, knock. A heavy sound broke the suffocating tension in the room.

Leo Martinez walked in.

Mr. Hale, Jaxon Rivers is here.”

Mr. Lee’s face darkened. “What the hell is he doing here?”

Since when does he just get to barge into Bayview?” another board member snapped.

‘This is an internal matter! We’ll deal with it ourselves!”

Bayview and Riverside were blood rivals. The board members hated Jaxon even more than Ethan did.

Ethan adjusted his suit and gave Leo a sharp nod. “Let him in.”

Leo turned and opened the door.

Mia looked toward the entrance, pinning her last shred of hope on Jaxon.

Jaxon was actually dressed up for once. The charcoal grey suit made him look way more mature than usual.

He gave Mia a reassuring look before strolling into the room.

“Sorry for crashing the private party,” Jaxon said. “But since this whole mess involves me, I figured I’d invite myself over.”

Jaxon walked up to the conference table and grabbed the photos, scanning them one by one.

“Wow. Convicting Ms. Carter based on a few pictures? You guys at Bayview are pretty sloppy.”

He picked out a few shots where he and Mia were locked in eye contact the ones where they looked like a perfect match and shoved them into his pocket.

“I’m keeping these. I might even frame them when I get home.”

He watched Ethan’s face closely as he said it.

Ethan rubbed his wrist, his expression dark with rage. “Cut the crap

Jaxon grinned and held up one of the photos. “This one? Mia was visiting me in the hospital on Ethan’s behalf. Some idiot must have been lurking around to catch this angle.”

He picked up another photo. “This one? Mia was feeling under the weather and went for a checkup. We just happened to cross paths.”

“And as for this one… I was picking her up after work. That sealed envelope she’s handing me? It contained a…”

He let the sentence hang, his gaze sweeping over the board members before locking onto Ethan’s face.

“A love letter. Look, the reason I’ve been around Mia so much is simple: I’ve had a crush on her forever. I’m courting her, old-school style. I’m going for that ‘slow and steady’ vibe, a real Platonic romance. That’s why we write to each other. You guys want to see? I’ve got it right here. Want me to read it for the group?”
